Holidays are over, but I did do some reading during. Read the manual properly in fact. In the small print it says 'set commander to channel three'. If you do that the SD600 flash for my nikon works wirelessly. All built in. (Means you can put the flash 20' from the camera and use the big lens.) So I constructed an elaborate set (the floor and a postcard) and experimented. It's been there all along. Serious self induced facepalm.    | ||

My Nikon will support a remote flash, but I think I need a slave flash on the camera for it to work. It'd be a fun thing to play with, but the next camera purchase will be the 18-200mm lens for me. I'm still new to D-SLR photog, so the built0in flash meets my needs for now. | ||

The D700 does the same thing with the SB800 . . . I'll have to read up and figure out how. Mike has it memorized and I watched him set up an entire network of flashes one day . . time them . . set the power output and . . with only about 3 adjustments . . get some awesome pics. Dave . . I'm liking not only the technical photo . . you do that well. But your true gift is the "art", the creativity. Really nice stuff. Court | ||

The ability to use the SB600 as a remote flash with the D90. I have to read the 90+ pages of the SB600 manual to figure it out myself. | ||

Hold down the mode and - buttons on the flash at the same time to select mode set it to radio - first menu item exit select mode then use the mode button to set channel and group (can run up to six slaves) flash done. open camera custom settings menu select e - bracketing/flash select commander mode set to channel three adjust compensations snap pictures (Message edited by danger_dave on January 05, 2011) | ||

the remote flash was one of the main reasons I bought the D90 in the first place but some of those manuals read like stereo instructions in Japanese. I actually picked up a D90 guide at my local bookstore and found all kinds of goodies about the D90 that I didn't know were there, in a language I could understand, and organized very well. also going through the menu you can hit the "?" and it will give you a brief description of most camera functions. |
