So...

I'm 20 sheets to the wind on whiskey at this point and if it sounds crazy, well, it may be.

We are about 12 hours to NYC. I know its late as hell to think cheap. We have never been east of Sandusky, Ohio and i, out of the blue thought..NYC for NYE!!!

Well, sounds easy, until you see hotel prices.

Anybody know where i could book a hotel within decent cab rates to the city?

Is it even worth attempting at all?

Anybody with a warm garage? lol.. wife may not like that!

New Years Eve in Times Square is not all it's cracked up to be. I did it a few years ago, staying with friends who lived in the city.

We left early - I don't remember what time, but easily hours ahead of time, and headed to Times Square. Except you can't get to Times Square because people start filling that place up probably the day after Christmas. You end up getting hearded like cattle all over the island of Manhattan. I was to say we were shuffled all the way down to Battery Park before we were allowed to head into the party, but looking at a map that seems obscene, but I still wouldn't be surprised if that were the case.

We did get lucky, however, as we were allowed to fill in a new 'people pen' which put us a few block closer to the ball, but still rather far away.

By the way, the ball, in all seriousness, is probably the size of a beachball - pittifully small for all the hype.

We stood there in the cold for a long time, made some small talk with our temporary neighbors and the cops on the sidewalk and contemplated how easily it would have been for some psycho to strap a bomb to his chest and how difficult it would be for anyone to get away. Need to pee? Be prepared to spend money in a shop because there's no where else to do it.

Whatever, we all count down, scream when it hits zero, and proceeded to take advantage of the fact we were right in front of a cross-street making a clean getaway and double timed it back to the apartment.

Cheap lodging will be hard to find in a cab's distance, but there are a number of BadWeB members who live in and around that area...

The simple logistics of putting over a million people in front of a building in frigid weather . . . conspire to make certain that it's almost impossible to have a good time.

No alcohol is allowed so plan on being stone cold sober from about 10:00am (the time you'll need to start getting "herded") until about 2:00am when you'll finally be able to leave.

For a better time . . .and this is strictly my personal opinion . . . stay someone outside of town . . where you can get a cheap $200 a night hotel . . . and then come into Manhattan about 6am on New Years Day to observe the carnage.

The city will be sleeping until noon that day and Manhattan, particularly on a Motorcycle, is awesome from about 6am until about 11:00am.

Then avail yourself to one of the 18,000+ great restaurants and join the other tourists (there will be about 2,500,000 of them here that day) and enjoy the city.

For my money . . . I'd do the Manhattan gig till about 11:00am . . then head over to Grand Central, have lunch at Annie Moore's and jump a Metro North train, take the 15 minute ride to the Bronx Botanical Garden and take in the Holiday Train.

It'd be an absolutely spectacular day. Watch for the Buell running around town. I generally start early and then head in to Ulysses Bar when they open for lunch. Old timers (if you can call 2005 "old time" will recall when I got in deep doo-doo for posting a pic of a "yet to be announced for 7 months" new product . . . with no mention of name . . .simply parked on a cobble stone street in front of a huge sign that said "Ulysses" . . took about 15 minutes for the phone to ring.

Ooops

Now that sounds like fun. But...are the roads clear enough? If you do that... can you take pics/video of the carnage?? (with your bike in the foreground of course)

I am waiting for 2012 to celebrate.

Look for hotels near any greyhound bus terminal. I have one about 1.5 hrs away from NYC and there are plenty of hotels around it.

If it is on your bucket list... I'd do it.

I did London for New Years once. That was great. Well what I remember was. I dumped enough coke out of a two liter to get a fifth of Jack into it. The bobby that searched me was only interested in the bottle not being made out of glass. Another bobby approached me later and I silly stringed him. He just laughed. No hassles and lots of kisses at midnight. After I made the 80 mile trip back to base, and was still drunk when I woke up the next day. I'd do it again, but, without the Jack.

Well, after sitting around and thinking about it, reading X11200r and Courts suggestions, probably not a good idea. Hey it sounded good last night.

I guess i didn't realize you can't just walk right down time square, no drinking and not to mention having to piss! Oh, not a big fan of large crowds, haha. Sounded good when i was bored as hell last night though.

I do like Court's idea though. If you do it again this year, please take lots of pictures and maybe even video. It would be awesome to see the carnage.

Rageonthel....Isn't Cedar Point in Sandusky?

I had to run a "Buell Errand" today . . . so I snapped some photos on the run . . . A simple run to a meeting and back here . . . is like no other place in the world.

Scroll to the bottom, . . .

Court,

What time are you going to be at the Ulysses Bar? I might try to get there this year, just to see the city on "the day after". I'd also like to try out my new GPS and do a route recon to Javitz center, rehearsing the ride to the IMS later in the month.
