Great bike. Honda's poor man's Ducati.

Tiny gas tank.

I LOVE the yellow.

Carbed, not very good mileage, down on suspension and brakes compared to RC-51 etc.
Sounds nice with pipes. Did a couple of jet kits.

I owned one...It has a rearward weight bias and I sold it because it never really felt right a speed.Ride it first,it will lift the front wheel on normal take off from stops.I installed a jet kit and pipes, range was terrible. They call it a "Poor-man's Ducati"Having owned 4 Ducks and sill own one,not even close, nobody is that poor!! They also run hot with the side-mounted radiators

my best friends dad just picked one up at the very end of this past fall, i havent ridden it yet, but my friend Kyle said its pretty damn fast, I read some reviews of it when they got it. There were a lot of complaints about the small gas tanks. and said that its nothing to be amazed at when it comes to the handling dept.

So far my friends dad seems to love the bike, he rode it the last few weeks before the snow hit, and didn't have anything bad to say about it. After riding my friends X1 he decided that he wanted something a little more sporty than his Magna, and picked up the superhawk pretty cheap

I was looking at picking one up last summer. I decided against it based on the small tank and less than stellar fuel mileage. Other than those issues I think I would enjoy this bike.

When you say they run hot,do you mean they have cooling issues or that they are hot sitting at a light in the summer?
What is the riding position like? The one I'm looking at has Heli Bars.
How about the peg position?

I don't know about the heat issue, but it's a pretty comfy sport touring position somewhere between the Firebolt and Lightning. I would think the Heli Bars would have you pretty upright. IIRC the pegs are pretty much straight down from the seat, but I didn't spend a lot of time with the one I looked at.

I had a VTR1000 and really enjoyed that bike. Never had any issues with it running hot at all. I got about 130 miles per tank before the low fuel light (red light of death) came on. I had my bike geared down a little and it would pull wheelies out of turns in third gear. It was a blast to ride. As others have mentioned, the suspension is low grade and you need to develop a smooth riding style to get around it. Just something to get used to.
Here's a pic of mine the day I sold it:

I think it is a helluva bike myself. Friend has one with a sharkskin race body. He has put that bike through the ringer and it just comes back for more. Though his has had a suspension upgrade, it still is a bit heavy turning in, until you get use to it, like any bike. With a bad back he can still ride all day long in the standard bar placement with stock seat. The range does limit seat time though so that maybe a factor.

Well I picked up the Black '99 I was looking at today. It's been well maintained and has Jardine high mount cans,a K&N and jet kit, stainless lines on the clutch and brakes,5/8 front master cylinder,Race-tech springs & 7wt in the front fork, manual cam chain tensioners, the regulator has been replaced with a 600RR unit with cooling fins,a vacuum operated Scottoiler, new chain and sprockets, new Pilot Roads and polished edges on the rims.
It needs pads (EBC HH's on order),a battery(I plan on limping along with this one for a while) and a windshild (I've got a Zero Gravity Double Bubble on order).
It's been ridden and needs alot of detail work.
I got it for 2200 and will put 300 in parts to whip it in shape.
I'll post pics when it passes muster.

Certain bikes just have 'That sound'. VTRs, TL1000s, that's what pointed me towards my VFR. Of course Buells too.

I was looking at the VTR and a TL1000R and ended up going with the TLR. It was an absolute beast, that's all that can be said...

I watched this video back when I was trying to decide. There is a point in this video where these guys ride the white line in the middle and hit the mirror of an oncoming car, I believe FTB posted a screen shot of it this week. Anyway, this is the first of 5 parts, it is a pretty good watch, albeit they get a little eurocrazy...

Interesting, the embedded video is not showing up, here is the link...

I wasn't trying to be negative about the bike.It was one of Honda's first attempts at a "tuned-flex" frame.I had a Hawk GT and we hoped it would be the same bike with 100hp,but it wasn't. A great bike for 90% of riders, strong and reliable, just wasn't for me.Tons of fun,as I always thought if I got busted for doing wheelies,I would tell the cop to go ride it and see if YOU can keep the front tire on the road!!

My second choice is a TL1000s. May have to go with an R though because I cant get past the rear rotary dampening system on the S. Serious stump pullers though.

I had a 2005 VTR1000 superhawk for just over 2 years and put 10000 miles on it before selling it. That bike is crazy fast, lots of torque and a great V-twin growl. It never got the kind of milage that my friends on XB's were able to get, but they weren't going to keep up with that beast. I enjoyed riding it, but decided that it was time to go after a few too many speeding tickets.
