So we got net flix for xmas and we need to hook the computer to the tv.

The computer is a Dell Inspiron mini 10 (a net book) It has a HDMI port.

The tv a HDTV about a year old, has 3 HDMI ports, I hooked the computer to the side port on the tv and nada. I didnt try the other ports. The tv is mounted on a wall above the fire place and they are a pain in the ass to get to.

Thanks, hope somebody can help.

I'm guessing you have Windows 7 operating system, if so, hold the "windows" button down and press "P". That will send you video signal to the HDMI port.

There will be a key to turn on the external display, find your computer user manual and read it. On my laptop it is FN+F4 but I doubt it will be the same for yours.

With the PC's Multiple Displays option turned on, also turn on Mirroring (if that's an option) to allow the TV to mirror what's on the PC.

Be sure to select the TV's input port with the remote where the PC is connected.

I don't have a xp computer in front of me but try to right click on desktop, go to display options and there should be options to display out to a tv via your hdmi port/ or just out to tv....

A Roku Box or an Apple TV are netflix and cost about $100 - less than a gaming system (the Wii can't do full HD, anyways).

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins1 010/en/sg/sg_en.pdf

Page 15 says when used with a monitor only video gets passed.

Several other posts suggest that getting audio may not work. I suggest calling Dell and speaking to the person in India to see if they can help you.

Also FN+F1 seems to be the key to switch between different monitors or reboot with the hdmi and monitor attached and see what happens.

Used Wii's are getting pretty cheap at gamestop these days... You can play netflix through your wifi connection without a DVD.

The audio is separate from the video.

If you can hear the audio on the PC through headphones with the TV displaying your movie, then connect the PC's headphone jack to the TV's external audio jack with an interconnect cable.

I don't know if your TV has a setup change to select external audio but, if not, the audio should change as well as the video when the PC input is selected.
