Grudge dragracing is heads up, run-watcha-brung racing. No et times are displayed, only the win lights are used. The timing is purposely NOT displayed, so opponents have no idea of exactly what the other racer can do, or has done. A whole lot of smack talking and bets being placed. These guys and gals riding are borderline insane.

2:27 in made me laugh. What are the 1/4 mile times for these bikes if you had to guess?

You can make a lot of quick money if you are a good rider. Most of the time there is some very heavy money being played.

Most serious grudge racers have ProMod class motors...we are talking high 6's under good conditions. There are some big names in the engine business hard at work building those engines...low 7's no-bar is serious stuff....EXPENSIVE serious stuff.

whiper - whats your point? seriously. ray price sponsors the track, its his home track. (currently has the quickest HD in the world and set many records himself before retiring)

as for times etc - way I've always heard it was this - a lot of those pro street guys run their bike during the race and run at/over/just under 200mph in the 1/4. High 6s, low 7s like stated above.
Then at night they get their FASTER bike out for grudge racing and make a few thousand more.
All of my dragracing buddies always said that usually the grudge bikes are quicker than the race bikes.
Impressive machines, fun to watch

I live 15 minutes from the track and go watch this kinda stuff all the time. The big money usually comes out after about 10- 10:30. It's nothing to hear 15-20,000$ bets being made, yes thousands. It is also nothing to see someone up in an opponents face talking about give me my money. Most of the time it is a bunch of stretched Busa and 14's, GSX'rs, and then the occasional serious "grudge" bike runs. The funny thing is waiting in line to make a run. Then two guys have a grudge match and they move them to the front of the line. I'm sure the track makes a little off the "exchanges"

In my "yoot" I was known to ride a bike or two on occasion...it's a fact that the fastest junk I have ridden was not my own.

Speed is expensive how fast do you want to go?

"I'm sure the track makes a little off the "exchanges""

around here when they do grudge runs they have to pay quite a bit extra per pass to not have their times shown.

That's pretty darn cool. The extended bodywork on those bikes looks gay, but I guess if you're that fast, you can get away with it!

ok so why the 10' swing arms when they could just use a wheelie bar and not have 50#'s of chain swinging around back there?

quite a few classes have -no bar- rules. These are more or less a 'streetbike' class. I race 'purestreet' no bars no slicks.

swordsman - a lot of classes have rules that state things like 'axle cant be further out than bodywork' etc
thats why the long bodies

boogi- just how it goes, some prefer to race 'street bikes' and go no-bar
And like bott said - many many many no-bar classes, some people prefer it.
all about opinions bro

I wondered if the long tails might have something to do with aerodynamic drag reduction, but then again, seems like if that was the case, they'd be able to make it MUCH more functional by forming it closer to the rider.

Years ago "grudge racing" was all done on the street...if you got busted you lost what was basically a hotted up street bike. Not a major loss if you have plenty of money.

Today's "grudge racing" bike is hugely expensive...never mind the mandatory (in most states) felony if convicted...you will get convicted...they tape it before they show up...

I have seen a guy take a "GS1150" motor out of a crate from Colorado ; ) and commence to go at it with flat black paint, handsful of dirt and flog it a bit with a grinder to make it look like it had skidded along one side...the bike it went in was equally ugly...the "ridah" came across as a complete buffoon...all part of Da Game...

That bike (small tire) went 6.98. It was impossible however to hide all three stages of nitrous or both 5 pound bottles...It killed a tire every two passes...I didn't ride it, the guy that owned it has his cuz ride it...

Too much money on the table to risk getting caught on the street...but I know some Boyz from Jersey that still say it ain't real if it ain't on da skreet.

If you think you have a pair ride one...200 on a bumpy 2 lane back road will rush you completely out.
