Some wonderful person has stolen one of my Credit Card #'s and had a field day... WOOO HOOO MERRY CHRISTMAS!! Just a FYI, its a Macy's American Express. When it was Macy's Visa, we would get a phone call if there was a HINT of something going on.... Like me at Homecoming buying 10 bucks in gas and my wife buying dog food back home... They would shut it down in a heart beat... Hell, it was to the point I would call in and tell them when I would be traveling just so we wouldn't have any issues.... As of right know... I'm not to pleased with American Express... add all the 4 letter word you want to this post... because I sure am saying them..... |

Bad timing, since you won't be able to get a replacement card before Christmas. Visa isn't much better, in my experience. I've had someone get hold of two card numbers over the years. This is the new form that bank robbery has taken. You are not held responsible for the charges, so the bank/card company covers them. Between ATM card "skimming" and theft of card data from stores, robbers are making out huge. Skimmers are scary: card data readers stuck on right over the ATM machine's card slot, combined with a mini-camera to record you entering your pin #, and - zip - wireless communication at its best: your card data is instantly whisked away and put to use skimming off amounts too small and random to register on the anti-fraud systems. Average haul from one ATM skim device setup: $50,000, over the course of a weekend. Unbelievable stuff. Here's a WSJ article about it: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB100014240527487044 42404575542652417958106.html |

>>> Bad timing, since you won't be able to get a replacement card before Christmas. That's counter to my experience. If needed, they'll happily overnight a new card. |

Mark hire a Legal counsel today if you can AMEX is plain evil They sent my old secretary a unauthorized card she used it to embezzle 785 K in 45 days. When they figured out she would never pay it bad. They came after me It has gone on for 12 years they will go away with a court order then a year or so later another agency starts the bs all over again Protect your self from the thief and and AMEX |

Uhhh... Amex, in my experience, has been spot on with 100% customer satisfaction and service. Lost my card in the Caribbean once, and had a new one within about 30 hours. Never saw any unauthorized charges, and when you don't like something you bought just tell them and they'll fix it. |

>>> Hell, it was to the point... I used to scoff at such notions as follows, but I've become convinced that the more we casually invoke the word, the more the state that it represents spreads and gains power on this good earth. Nothing is worse than hell. I think we've forgotten about that. For example, why don't we use the word "rape" instead? Thankfully we still mostly acknowledge that as a situation undeserving of casual treatment. I say "mostly" because of the "like a raped ape" descriptor that has become fashionable among some. Good luck resolving your charge card fraud. Hope your Christmas is still wonderful and in no way excruciating or otherwise tormenting. |

Somebony got my bank card number once. they spent all of my money plus 5k. I was at the store getting some food and it kept saying no to my card, so i paid cash and called the bank only to hear i was over by 5k. I asked the lady how in the hell am i over 5 grand and she said " well your account has been very good for a long time and we take care of our customers." well if i have not been over on my acc why the hell would i go over 5k in one night!!! Took 10days to get all of my money back. best par was that my daughter was in town and i had NO money. I made the bank cash advance me money from my account. The person spent it all up in canada on strip clubs and blockbuster. |

I feel for you Mark. Someone got the debit card info. They cleaned out the checking account, and to protect us against overdrafts, we have it tied to our savings. They emptied 5,000 in a day until it bounced. Visa took care of it, but it was still a pain to deal with. We had to contest every charge with a form via fax and there were more than a couple. |

First off that was quite a detour Second, not everybody shares your religion Is Amex very useable where you are at? It's kinda hit or miss here, secretary of state and other gov offices are visa and master only along with many small/family shops I wonder if the rate for the machine is more? |

I wonder if the rate for the machine is more? It sure is, about 3% more + or - but it keeps getting better... we pulled both our credit reports and the bogus addy was on mine as well. If we didn't pay our CC's off in full every month, this may have not been caught until our next bill came. |

A few years ago someone online got one of my cards from South Africa and tried to buy some camera lenses in Seattle. The camera retailer called me and asked if I ordered it and I said no and that stopped it I had a new card in a week. Now that card I keep at a 500 limit and use it on the internet. A couple of months ago someone got my Debit/Visa that is linked to my checking account. I only use it for gas/food, local charges and never on the internet. I’d like to know how someone from Germany got that number, charged 700 dollars worth of motorcycle stuff from some web site in Germany. I got the web site’s address from my bank, did a goggle search and the site was in German. I had to translate it than I emailed them, told them about the fraud and either my bank or that web site stopped the transaction. |

>>> First off that was quite a detour Yes, I know. It seems important. >>> Second, not everybody shares your religion True. Yet The concept of hell, like evil, transcends religion. One need not be religious to understand the meaning of either, or to appreciate the effect of their casual invocation. |

Twobuells, read the article I linked to above. It's amazing how easily the info can be stolen from you, whether it is someone hacking into a store's computer system for payment detail info, or an insider at a store selling CC sales info to a thief, or someone rigging an ATM to steal the info right off your card and make a new one that they use with your PIN that they filmed you using at a cash machine! |

Dude, dealing with "hungry ghosts" is a lot worse than hell... go ahead, google that, tell me if you know what it means... Wolfie, I feel for ya... my landlords have told me from before I signed my lease, July 15th, would be no problem to get out of it if I lose my job... Same thing on the 9th when I lost my job, now they say they are keeping my $800 security deposit! I HATE BEING LIED TO... |

A lease can be enforced. $ 800.00 security deposit loss is why you dont have to pay the next 6 months. Dont sign a lease if you really want month by month. Did you get those terms spelled out in the written lease? The $ 800.00 is the liquidated damages for breaking the lease. |

Never heard of it before Charlotte. All kinds of attributions to the term. If it's near as awful as you say, it'd also be something to avoid casually invoking in conversation. |

hey Wolf, someone did a $29.95 electronic check that was charged to my (and my wife's) checking account last Tuesday...my wife is always online checking our account and keeping the checkbook updated. They used my name, my checking account number and a Bristol, VA address. After contacting two police departments, the bank and the place that charged my account...we got an IP address from where it was done online from a business in Dahlonega,GA...which is one of the towns I went to when I was at Buelltoberfest. Oh well, I cleaned that account dry the day we found this charge and have not had any more charges and I pulled my credit report and there have been no inquiries on my soc sec # in the last 6 months...so thank God my problem is very minor in relation to most, but I would like to spend that 30 bucks in ammo to show the person who did this how pissed off I really am. I hope you get yours fixed and no further damage takes place, it sucks to not know what else may happen to your info and how the heck they got it in the first place. |

Dude, I know what you're going through. I had someone steal my identity back in April, using my SSN and address to open accounts in Macy's and Best Buy, charging almost $4000 worth of computers and clothes. I'm still trying to get it all sorted out. If I ever find the person who did it, I will ensure they fully understand how pissed off a person gets when their hard work and good credit is screwed up by some criminal. |

And sometimes it's not even on purpose, it's easy done. When we bought our house 10+ years ago we started getting past due notices before our first payment was even due. I contacted the local bank, who sold the mortgage then contacted the bank who had bought it and they had mixed up my info. with someone from the same town with the same name. They acted like it was no big deal. When my name is on the line for tens of thousands of dollars it's a BIG deal. |

I had that happen to me in 2007. it was when hackers got into the BJ's wholesale club computers getting all of the customers CC information. Some one down in South America got my number made a CC with their name on it and went on a spending spree for the weekend, Completely drained my checking account, thank GOD I had overdraft protection on my regular VISA otherwise my savings would have been hurt. Anyway go to the bank you got your CC from and sign the Affidavid immeadiatly the faster you get this signed the quicker you will get your money back. I waited for about 10 day before signing this if I would have known I would have demanded to sign it earlier. It took me more than 6 months to recover |

From what I'm hearing, it sounds like it makes sense to not use a bank card for checking or savings accounts. Use a credit card instead; just be sure to pay it off every month! |

Hey Mark, you never answered my quextion... Got recon? I'm sure you've had a pow-wow with the wifey about where y'all have been, etc.- but see if you can work with timelines and places you've been- no one else is gonna do the detective work for you... And- given all the hoops it sounded like you were dealing with in getting the new pup, would that have exposed you both in any way? Just my $.02 (wish I could offer more), and good luck!! |

well the sheriff is on his way to our house to get the info from my wife. hope he likes my new dog... heeheee hee The other day I went to the pet store and I picked up a magazine for bully breads. I then went to the back of the store to the "Salon" to check on prices and picked up some literature. Which I placed on top of the magazine and headed out the front door. When I got to my truck I realized I walked out without paying for the magazine. I promptly turned around, went back in and payed for it. karma is a bitch. If I wouldn't have paid for that mag my new pup would have eaten one of my wives cats or something.... The people that prey on other people will get theirs in the end.... |
