I wake up to a foot of snow, underlain by ice, blowing conditions and road closures pending...
My dream job is over... I have a new XB9SX... and a little bit of cash stashed away... nowhere to be and nothing to do...
I am not worse for the wear... but I dream of sunny skies, open roads and that little 9 clicking away the miles...
My thoughts are to hit the road... by January 1st I could have all my stuff in storage... and arrangements made for the other odds and ends in my life...
I have always wanted to see New Orleans.
I have plenty of quality camping gear... and I like to be alone in the middle of nowhere... light a fire... and listen to the music of the universe... the wind through tall pine trees... a river bubbling... the sound that the stars make as they swirl above my head... if only you listen close enough... the universe is singing...
I have applications out in Texas, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida... and would love to visit the Navajo Nation, where I will be able to re-apply for a nice position which pays close to what I was making...
in the middle of nowhere... four corners... in another space... another time... a parallel universe known as Indian Country...
Nothing to lose. Everything to gain.
I should know better than to waste a good opportunity to fly... I still have my wings... they may have been clipped for a while... but not anymore...
There is nothing left for me here...
in three months, when this white crap is done blowing up here... I could return by April 1st to resume the grind... pick up where I left off... go to school... look for work...
Call it the extended tour in search of sanity... maybe I will write a book about it... some maps to follow... ideas and dreams are in my head this morning...
Char, It may sound crazy, but, I envy you. If you have to, throw the bike into the back of a small u-haul and get clear of the snow. Have the u-haul folks help you load and unload the bike to and from the truck. Don't slow down till your free of the truck. ,R.D.
Char - if you hit New Orleans, let me know. You and my friend Steph (a bartender/manager down there) could do some serious damage to that town
Door's open in Maryland if you find yourself out this way, and good luck! Just make sure wherever you go you have internet access, so you can keep us Buellers updated...
I did and it still ranks as one of the best experiences in my life.
Spend the time waiting for the thaw doing a little bit (don't too much) preparation and just go . . . . I saw 37 states the time I did it and hope to go again.
Most people die being so enslaved to created restraints that they never, in all their years, ever simply take some time for themselves.
Don't for get your flat lander friends here in Fla. good luck Char. I wish it was me. I have Dream much like yours, but I'll have to wait till the kids get bigger, off to college and all that. Good luck, keep us posted, Jeff
Char - Danielle Hebert was bailed on by her (ex) husband and just sold most everything she owned (except recording and sculpture gear) and she hit the road over 16,000 miles ago. She'll be wintering here instead of heading back to Vancouver (decision was aided by the death of her Suzuki and her newly found connections in the music industry)
