Ratbuell, thx for joining in. I miss BattleTrax. The RK certainly isn't the best tool for the job, but I'd love to hammer it around a BX course some time and see what it would do.

I never knew until I was scanning my pix from BlindKenny.com how close the crash bars come to the ground when cornering aggressively. There's no way I could touch my bars down in the bike's present configuration, as there are other hard parts that contact first on either side, but it's obvious from the photo above (which wasn't a full lean - there's a little air under the lip of the floorboard) that the bar isn't far behind.

I like your idea of bar pucks. Better yet, how 'bout titanium sparkies?!? How cool would it be to hammer around a BX course tossing sparks in the corners? Heck, I bet a person would make Killboy's "highlight" page with a set-up like that.

I don't imagine there'd be a very strong market for 'em, tho, prolly just you, me, Madduck and RoadThing. ; )

jerry - the first bike I rode when I got my MC license was my fathers 76 FLH
He still has it.

That's very cool. There's a long, fun story about how I came to own my '76 FLH, which was my first Harley. It was a Liberty Edition model in honor of America's bicentennial, and quite a striking machine. It was pretty crude and basically a glorified farm implement in most respects, but it was fun to ride and I wish I still had it. I took one of my first "major" motorcycle tours (eight states/about 5,000 miles as memory serves) on it. Still have the original batwing fairing, some photos, and a lot of memories. I see them come up on eBay every now and then. One of these days...

I really like this thread, its about HDs and NOT bashing. Keep up the good work guys!

Kinda refreshing, ain't it? : )

Hey, Mr. Owen, one last thing: My dear friend Jim Bantz (JB2 here on the board) is a good man, and goes back a long, long ways on BadWeB. Just thought you'd like to know.

I will say this thread has me thinking about riding.... and I can't wait!!

The days will start to get longer in 12 days... The Polar Bear ride is right around the corner.... Daytona...teaching new riders... Res Ride... Homecoming.. WVBR5... Buelltoberfest...

The smell of the road, sometimes good, sometimes bad.... cool valleys.. warm stretches of open road... bugs on the face shield...

Time for some rid'n music...

Wolfie, that's some pretty good stuff!

Don't tell anyone, but me 'n D snuck out to Cali when no one was looking. Yep, the land of the Year 'Round Ride. Think we're gonna head up into the Sierras this weekend - s'posed to be sunny and warm - and visit some of our old haunts.

Stop yer dreamin' and get yer ass on out here, brudda. : )

This ain't quite the rocker you posted above, but it's a cool song nonetheless, and perhaps the best "why we ride" I've ever seen:

Hey Longtooth,

If you and Denise need some SoCal time, there is an extra bedroom and Uly at the Reindog compound. Al, Joanne, Zach, Laurie, and I are hanging in Carlsbad for most of this Christmas season and we would love to see Denise. ; )

Rex, I read a link you posted recently that said Woz is the "Voice of Bonneville," or words to that effect. Pretty cool!

It's been forever since we've seen you guys.

Take care,

Glad to hear about James. I think the last time we saw him you'd brought him down to Bakersfield for some sort of skateboard competition put on by Van's?? That was several moons ago. : )

Yeah, we're kinda stuck in the "middle." Dino says there's not a town in Cali further from good roads than Hanford, and that's pretty close to the truth.

jerry, i dont understand your post about your friend, I dont think I know the gentleman. I dont think. I dont recall replying to him on here.

the 76, I dropped it once near the house, as by myself. I was 16 at the time, weighed about 130lbs.... couldnt pick the bugger up. Had to leave it in the street (at a stop sign) and walk a hundred yards to a gas station to get help.
Embarassing.
My dad loves it, hes done several trips on it including two to Sturgis and half a dozen or so to Daytona (not including other trips and around town/country riding), we are in central NC.

I rode the shovel til he bought me my first buell, 99 s3.

Ain't so. I'm just up the road in Fresno and there's miles of excellent road out there. Head west on 198 through Coalinga and make a right on Hwy 25. Follow that north til it tees into the old coalinga road. Take another right and head back.

The coastal range is starting to green up. Sierras are about snowed in. For a real blast take the nacimiento-ferguson road from Ft Hunter-Liggett to Hwy 1 along the ocean (you'll need a D/L and proof on insurance to get past the guard shack).

This is a cool thread, very positive. As much as I rail that H-D should be more flexible, I do really really really like the CVO Road Glide. I have always liked that frame mounted shark nosed fairing. I might even get one after some rich guy bought one and didn't ride it much for a couple of years before deciding to buy a boat. That one I could afford.

I also remember a visit to my grade school in 1970 by Officer Friendly on his Electra Glide (IN BlUE no less) and that bike looked so big to me, I was afraid to touch it, but I couldn't stop staring at it, and that was the beginning that put me on a 3hp minibike the next year. So I guess I have to credit Harley with getting me on two wheels, thanks MoCo, I owe you.

Stroke, I lived in this part of Cali (the Lake Isabella area, specifically) for ten years before moving to the Appalachians, and Denise was born and raised here. Not too many roads around here we haven't ridden, but suggestions are always appreciated. : ) We usually took the Ft Hunter-Liggett to Hwy 1 route each year on the way to Laguna Seca. It's a peach.

Ever done the Mighty 190 from Springville to Kernville??

Oh yeah, it's one of my favorites. 190 up through Camp Nelson and then along the Great Western Divide Hwy. Then down towards the Kern river but instead of turning south towards Kernville heap up over Sherman Peak Pass. Down to Kennedy Meadows and Nine Mile Canyon Road.

Once we hit 395, it's usually head north towards Bishop (Bristle Cone Pines, ills and/or Bodie, etc)before picking one of the great roads back across the Sierras.

I completed basic LEO motor school on an 08 (skinny rear tire). I completed LEO Motor Instructor on a 10 (wide rear tire).

The 08 felt more nimble with the slow stuff. The 10 has a wobble in sweeping curves in excess of 70 MPH. The ABS on both functioned flawless. The floorboards on the 10 are not adjustable. The air ride seat rockc! Both are able to navigate a 360 circle with a 17 ft diameter without scraping, though I have worn the edge of a 10 floorboard almost to the rubber.

Any other questions?
