Insane. I wouldn't give more than $300 for that bike.

Original Z1s, as opposed to the later KZ1000 models, are like original sandcast Honda 750s. Serious bread and collectability.

Wouldnt' be a bad buy at all. Prolly top 3k, just my guess.

When I was a youngster, I worked for Leo's Kaw-BMW in Memphis. I got to go to school on the Z before it was released, and got to make passes at the strip with the second one we got. Big deal for a 22 year old speedfreak.

My buddy has a 900(original owner). He watches eBay and tells me about the mint ones that go for 15 grand.

You'd spend a chunk of money on that one to make it worth anything again. That's not a horrible price for the guys that are into them.

I love vintage jap bikes. The Z1 is a "holy grail" bike fo sho...

A local guy has an original 1978 GS1000S- gives me wood anytime.

My dream bike (literally) is an XN85.

If that is a first year 903 Z1, making THAT one into a 15k one would cost too much. But they're out there.

But I'll promise you if I could buy it at 3k, spend 2.5k more on it, it'd turn into an 8-9k bike. Good moneymaker if you know your way around 'em.

First year Z-1 would be 1973...they are brown and orange. I bought one in 1974.

The one in the E-bay ad has been hacked. The missing original side covers are a serious negative, as is the 16" rear wheel conversion. If the motor locked up from sitting, repair is easy if not cheap. (those are some very easy motors to work on).

There is at least one company in Japan? if I recall that sells reproduction exhaust systems...My old racing partner just sold a '76 model that was more rust than motorcycle for 1800.

I had a sandcast '69 model 750 Honda too. Sold it in '85 for lets say...more than I paid for it ; )...

For me, the '84/'85 GPZ1100 and GPZ750 are truly iconic motorcycles...If I find one in good condition, I will get a 750 Zephyr..it's a Gpz in sheep's clothing....all of the old KZ line were excellent for their time...right down to the little 550...

Some dude around here had what looked to be an original GPz550, with the "factory" Kerker header- looked to be complete- kinda wish I'dve gone to look at that one...

A buddy of mine had one of the first Z1s. The exhaust system rusted out and Kawasaki replaced it under warranty. Then he put a Hooker header on it and some other stuff and hung the nearly-new exhaust system on the wall. When he got married, his wife made him get rid of the bike (pussy) and he threw the exhaust away. He gets sick every time I tell him what it would be worth now.
