What sort of rod?

My preferred fly is a "Bloody Butcher" I've caught more with them than anything else.

A high school classmate of mine has this fly fishing site:
http://www.hooked-on-flies.com/

I'm not a fisherman, so I can't comment if his info is good or bad, I just know he's always out in the rivers.

I haven't been fly fishing since I was a kid, I want to start again very badly but don't know where to start.

can anybody help me with a starter rod and reel for salmon? on a budget?

brands models websites/stores ect. to get me started again would all be greatly appreciated

all I knew when I was younger was that my grandpa would let me pick the rod and reel I wanted after he first narrowed it down by application.
he also let me help with hand winding a few flies, very gratifying when a fish would bite for what you made by hand.

Delta, you need to talk to Hex, don't know if he's still active on here or not.

PM me if you need more info.

i caught it on a double beadhead prince nymph. it's pretty cold here so the fish are deep. the rod is a 8' Loop adventure 4-5 wt. Grumpy, i'll have to check out a "Bloody Butcher".

Delta,
Listen to Mr. Grumpy!! Hex helped me a ton when me and the wife started fly fishing last summer. Not sure if it is safe to post his web site here or not but since it has nothing to do with Buells or motorcycling here it is.
Nice fish Joel!!

How do you like that reel? What weight line did you use, I'll guess a 9 weight (unless you posted that above and I missed it). I need to put together a steelhead setup someday.

Nice fish, nice rig, nice image.

DeltaOne,
Cabela's has a Green River series rod, budget priced compared to others (if I've got the model name right). I found a 6wt rod in that series at a thrift shop this past summer, seems decent enough to get started with, I just need to find a reel to go with it.

There might still be a fly fishing thread in the archives. 95% of my browsing is with the phone these days so I'll have to let someone else run the search.

It is 7° outside. It is the warm thoughts of summer that keep me going until April.

I had some Fly Fishing fun this summer on a camping trip with my Uly.

Dry fly fishing in summer is a blast.
I carry a 8 1/2 ft 5wt 4 piece on the bike.
This was at the Root river in southeast MN.
I tried so many flies that day I don't rememder what I finaly caught them on but I think it was a tan Caddis.

yea, dry flies are way more fun. you actually get to see the action. nymphs are kind of like getting a snag on the bottom. fun anyway though

Look up Hex he is the fly fishing guru here.
Did he survive the oil spill with BP? He really was really upset about it.
