Now that Dana and Rocco have respectfully tossed the reigns aside, is any one interested in taking over the planning process. Personally I was happy with HC last year and wouldn't mind a similar event. Let's get some input going!!

My only suggestion would be hold it during the AMA races at RA in June. Hopefully Erik Buell Racing will be fielding a 1190. sure they won't mind the support.

I agree. During the races would be an excellent time. In addition, it's always best to bring in new faces to plan and organize lest we fall into the "try to outdo" routine. Over the past 22 years each Homecoming has been a different type of event and each has been spectacular.

Last year's was a very special event, to me, for two reasons.

First it was so well organized.

Second, because it was the first year where Buell "technically didn't exist" and that fact that it was one of the largest crowds ever spoke volumes.

I can do it. I'm too old, boring and tied up in other things. But I can be of great help (I suspect we have a couple great things in store for this year) to whoever decides to step up to the plate.

I'd also suggest that whoever is considering helping perhaps mull it over for a week or so, make sure you have the time and fortitude and let's set a date of about December 1 to start chasing volunteers.

I think it's going to be and exciting year. And . . even though Dana and Rocco may be retired from Buell . . . I'm sure looking to see them there!

I said last year at HomeComing (well THIS years) that I'd for sure go to HC in 2011.
THat was assuming it'd be in Wisconsin

Now, if youre talking about Georgia....even better. Im in NC, that'd be a much nicer drive than 14 hours to East Troy.

I hope someone is able to step up and do this.
I love the idea of doing it in June at Road Atlanta, just hoping it doesnt conflict with my own racing

RA != Road Atlanta when regarding Homecoming.

RA = Road America.

Well what did everyone think about Alpine Valley? Is that somewhere we want to stay again? Personally I didn't mind it there. They had plenty of room for us and the staff seemed to put up with us pretty well.

I agree RA would be an excellent thing to add to Homecoming.

Alpine Valley was a good place.
We basically owned the place. Late nite "conversations" (human or mechanical)in the parking lot were not an issue.
It would however be a long ride to RA.

I loved Alpine Valley

the scenery was amazing. the roads were empty, the sunsets were gorgeous, there were stars at night, and the smell of clean air all day.
despite all of these pluses the insects never seemed to be an issue, I'm used to a trade off but was VERY happy not to be swatting at bugs all night.
(can you tell I live in the city and miss nature a bit?)

I loved Alpine Valley, and would be find with going back. But also love the idea of it being a few hours closer to me haha

My only 'complaint' was that there wasnt much buell stuff going on during the weekend. Only two things to do were go to the old factory and look in the windows and/or ride to Hals and Ukes, which I LOVED Ukes!
I think with Road Atlanta/AMA race itd be something Buellers could go do and support a racer of ours etc.
Just my opinions.

But if its back in Wisconsin, cool, I'll be there.

They aren't talking about the AMA races at Road Attlanta, LOL...The races they are talking about are at Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI.
No one is talking about having Homecoming in Georgia, lol. Hell, it wouldn't be Homecoming if it was in Georgia, just saying.

I live right outside of East-troy and would be willing to help-out.It's a major under-taking so I think we need someone with experience in organising some thing like this......Sounds like a job for Froggy!!

Alpine was nice, food was good. Country view campground was nice. Gus' drive in was great and I loved the car show. Erik Buell Racing's yard sale was a hoot. Roma's stepped up to the plate on short notice and really shined. I got cooked at the track day. Wish I had went on more rides. Best part was hanging out with other Buellers. Hey, Erik, What is a good date for HC 2011?

I love homecomings. I have been to several and had planned on being at the one this year. We had a death in the family and I had to miss a couple of events for Buellers this year. The S2 Gathering and the Homecoming. Sure hated that.

I have a couple of days set aside on the calendar, but attending depends on what is happening and planned for work. They are not nailed down yet. June, I am usually on the road the whole month.

I would love to help, but cannot commit at this time. I will keep watching to see where and when it happens.

I am trying to attend the S2 gathering in Christmas this July too, plus Moto GP at Laguna.

I would think Homecoming should always be in East Troy, or where ever the Buell Produced motorcycles are being made.

Just my opinion.

I like the East Troy idea for a couple reasons. Strategically and politically, it never hurts us to reassert and affirm out thanks to the Village of East Troy. It was pretty cool last year when Bill Loesch, the Village President, came and joined us at Gus's. The Village of East Troy has been a great partner for Buell.

We went for a period of time where we moved the annual gathering, tough to call it "Homecoming" around a bit . . . it was fun but never really quite felt right.

I confess that last year I had my concerns about Alpine Village, it's a bit old and worn, but they were quickly eclipsed when I saw what a fabulous job they did. In addition, it's close and we pretty much have the run of the place.

One challenge . . doing it on race weekend . . . can be the distance (about 2 hours) to the track. However, as a group of folks who ride motorcycles, it's well within our purview to solve that one and there are, as the locals know, some fabulous ways to make that trip enjoyable.

The other choice is pricey, hard to get rooms at the track.

We have a bit of time to toss about ideas . . . so I hope the open tendering of ideas continues. All I can say is that I'm bit fed up with Rex's lame excuses and don;t intend to tolerate him missing another event. I've avoided "patch fines" but am not beyond reinstating them.

I'm hoping that as folks celebrate Thanksgiving that some of you will be drinking . . .that always generates a couple fun suggestions.

Anyway . . . let's toss stuff around and see what happens . . .I think this could be a fun year!

If I can acquire a Uly, or at least an STT and "ulyize" it, I'd do the journey again.

The CityX aint for +2K miles round trips...

(Or my body aint.)

I designate DaveS in charge of the BBQ. I failed to get him a pig hunt in Texas last year, but surely he can find and kill a few for us to eat there abouts. : D

Not to worry, A small group of us "locals" will be doing some preliminary Homecoming planning near the 1st of the year.

Just like last year, expect to see some surveys on what everyone wants.

It's been discussed, and I think there is a good chance it will be around the AMA races at Road America.

If we do hold it around the East Troy area, AND during the AMA weekend, I seriously doubt we will be able to book Erik Buell and the Thunderbolts for a concert. I'm pretty confident that Erik would be too busy with the race stuff to cater to us enthusiasts.

brin - sorry, when you post
RA != Road Atlanta when regarding Homecoming.

RA = Road America.
then I take it...you mean doing a big thing at the Road Atlanta race.

Wisconsin, sure, Im still down for it, cant wait.
But I'll say that I hope if its a two hour ride to the track the directions arent like the directions for the routes last year - where you cant enjoy the road due to all of the turns (not curves, but changing roads) and having to constantly check the map and your odometer etc

I wonder if any of our own members in bands could/would make the journey and perform...I know a few members that are in bands.

Oh, and the != meant does not equal... : )

Blake I did make it pig hunting in Texas in Mar of 09. Shot 4, we cooked one for one of my shop events later that year.
Now with my Africa hunts not sure if I will make it back to Texas for pigs but would love to someday.
As far as me being in charge of anything I'm afraid I'd have to decline. Too far away, waaaaayyyyyy too busy growing my business to put more on my plate.
Depending on the dates and how long I will be in Africa this May/June I will of course try to make it but can't even promise that at this time. I will be there if I can.

Too bad about the band, that was one of my favorite things!

Hybridmomentspass, to get the nice twisties in WI, you need to change roads now and then : )

Those routes really were meant to be used with a GPS.

well it sucks when something like that is meant for a GPS....and you dont have one. The people youre with do not have one either (on their bike)
Just makes it for a bad route for some folks (most of who I spoke with)

brin - I didnt know that "!=" was for 'does not equal'
it probably wouldve been better to type =/= as that actually resembles the sign for 'does not equal'

On the road in June? How about shaking things up in Laconia?

It would be a madhouse, however it might be fun to mix things up by a Buell takeover.
