Great convo!
I have used, and still use, both leather and textile gear. I like them both for different reasons.
Textile gear is more comfortable, easier to get on (pants in particular), easier/cheaper to be waterproof and/or well vented, and protects just as well in A crash, as in a singular event. Look at Court's photo - he's good to go, but it would be unwise to use that suit again without repairing it.
Leather, on the other hand, can crash numerous times and still be safe. For that, you get something that doesn't breathe as well, isn't waterproof and is pain to get in/out of ($1400 Transit suit aside).
When going on a long ride (all day or multiple days) I take my textile suit. It's waterproof so I don't have to mess with rain gear, and breathes well enough even in very hot weather. Short rides, I'll throw on my leather jacket if it's cool out, mesh if it's hot. Sometimes I'll wear the suit for a short ride just to feel safer. Sometimes I'll wear the mesh on a long ride if I'm confident in the weather (I'd rather be a little warm in my suit rather than have to stop and put waterproof liners in my mesh gear if the rain starts).
I guess the point is it's nice to have options. Both have their place.
For the record, any track day organization I've had experience with will allow textile gear in the Novice group only. |

One of the reasons, although I may never admit it, that I REALLY like the 1-piece Aerostich. There is no such thing as "throwing on the jacket".
It takes all of about 7 seconds to don and you get pants . . like it or not.
I don't always exercise that good of judgement and the Aerostich . . in a way . . is a bit smarter than I. |

Court, I agree 100% and that was the reason I opted for a 1-peice with my latest gear purchase - it forces me to have the pants on as well.
I have a pair of textile pants on the Xmas list for this year - until now all I've had are leather race-style pants that can't go over jeans and do go on or off easily, so having that option available to me will make me want to wear them more. I'm also going to be getting a pair for the missus to go with the jacket i got her already. |

Heard from Aerostich this afternoon. They can repair if for far less than buying a new suit even with the crasher's "discount."
I'll probably have it back after the holidays, as good as new. Yippee!! |
