I know we all love to hate HD, I still hold resentment for them as well and love to beat down HD riders who run their mouths.

Anyways, I see HD put out the 120r motor. It has a claim of 135hp. Was wondering if that would be considered a threat on the 1/4 mile track or not?

Sounds like a great motor that still has to drag around a 700lb dead elephant.

It sounds like it would be awesome in a power cruiser.....probably way too expensive in its final implementation though.

cataract - HD is trying to get a class for those motors in the AHDRA, if that goes through - yes, they will be a threat on the 1/4 mile track as they'll be competing on it.

We'll see what happens
IF this class goes through Im sure we'll
a) know soon as people need to get to building
b) it'll be next season

and the information that I stated above about the AHDRA class was something that was told to me from a pretty good informant recently

From what I've been reading, some have put this motor in their bikes. I was kinda curious on an 1125R vs 120r matchup.

Will the AHDRA allow it?? Thats silly...of course they will...isn't it an all Harley show? If harley came out with a 200 cubic inch motor AHDRA would allow it.

Drag racing is all about FAST...9 second quarter miles are not FAST...If that new motor can be made to push into the 7's without puking it's guts all over the track, I will be duly impressed.

The performance numbers on that motor are impressive, but I'm going to have to see them to believe it. And even so, 135+ hp and 137 ft lbs of torque doesn't make it a threat if it's gotta push 800 lbs of bike and rider down the track.

Dude, 9 seconds is fast. Sure it's not 7 but it's fast. Anyone that can sit on a street legal Harley with forward controls and do 1/4 mile in 9 seconds has got some skill.

Yes, AHDRA would surely allow the motor, why wouldnt they? it'd meet all the requiremnts - a HD motor, pushrods etc etc etc

but my post was in reference to its own class. What I was told was that HD was pushing for a new class for this motor, a bagger class. No wheelie bars, must have hard saddlebags etc. Again, this is just what was told to me by a well informed source, dont shoot the messenger (me : ) )

Im with Bud, 9 seconds on a street legal Hog is moving pretty well.

But on the 800lb thing, I think if the rules are relaxed you wont see bikes at 800lbs (again, talking baggers), people have and will use CF wheels, strip it of certain things etc, It'll probably be a solid 100 lbs less.
And then if its not in a bagger, just a standard bike like Softail/FXR/etc then we're talking much less than that.

There have been people racing baggers before, 9s are possible, I can tell you that for certain.
Something super cool about seeing a bagger wheelie off the line and ride it out about 150 feet or so and then still rip off a low 10, high 9 pass.

I know I'm an old fuddy duddy but 9.0 1/4 mile is stupid fast to me, especially for a street legal HD. At the end your doing what?, probably around 160 or so?

Sorry....I was confused....I didn't consider street legal machinery...when I say "drag racing" I think of racing machines...a 9 second street Harley would be a bad boy....of course you can do that with a well tuned and well ridden 1125 Buell...or any number of stock production imports.

Hm, from what I'm reading that 120r is only managing low 11s in the 1/4. That's really not to great if you ask me for what it puts out. I bet the 60ft time would be stupid fast due to the tq, but after that I bet it loses steam.

Harry, you were right, 1/4 mile 9 sec isnt fast for AHDRA. Those guys are a few cards short of a full deck, they can run sub 7 second 1/4 miles and hit 190+. But for a "cruiser" 9.0 is really really fast.

I've never raced my other bike (Yamaha Raider) but there are plenty of guys who have and it runs in the 12's, bone stock. Thats plenty fast for me, especially with the seating position and my feet out in front of me. Like I said though, I'm an old fuddy duddy.

Don't get me wrong...there is little in motorcycle drag racing that matches the sound and fury of a top class Top Fuel Harley when both holes stay lit the whole pass...

Nothing Harley builds is going to be any kind of threat to any kind of sport bike let alone a repli-racer Superbike.

Saw one of these just the other day- one buddy had built the motor for another buddy, they had high hopes for what it would do after break in...

Don't know much about the tech specs, but it looked pretty nice... had it in a late model Ultra.

cat - where are you getting the information on the times

"Hm, from what I'm reading that 120r is only managing low 11s in the 1/4. That's really not to great if you ask me for what it puts out. I bet the 60ft time would be stupid fast due to the tq, but after that I bet it loses steam."

135/135 should do better than 11.0 with a decent rider.
I know weight can/will be a factor, as well as gearing, thats why Im curious what youre seeing these results on.
No attack on you whatsoever, just curious about the times.

Just running a search in google and seeing what people are saying about it. Seems that most have said low 11s for it. Considering the beast it has to move, not surprised.

There is a guy that rides a 9 second Bagger (or did, it has been a while) that I saw regularly run at DeSoto Dragway.

He rode it there, raced it, and drove it home (unless it broke)...his support crew brought the nitrous and oil dry...it would wheelie off the line if it didn't spin, and gather some impressive steam on the big end for what it was.
