I did something real dumb the other day .... got me thinking...what others may have done so...

What are some of the dumbest things you've done while working on your Buell??? (or riding) I have 2: (well probably more but 2 keeps it short and to the point)

1. My first oil change, I removed the trans fluid drain bolt instead of the oil bolt and then upon filling it up, immediately wondered why the oil was overflowing.

2. I was so psyched when I got my new 6mm rotor and mounting kit that I unmounted the caliper and rotor before I removed the wheel.

Wasn't on it at the time... but accidentally set the M2 up in flames...
I think that qualifies...

Adjusting my suspension for the first time, I ran the screws in like carb air screws, and then backed them off. Couldn't figure out why it rode like a rigid.

Oh yeah...Does riding my first Buell into the garage for the first time and trying to install my magnetic tank bag count???

Followed a DRZ 400 on what was supposed to be an 'easy' trail..... ended up being chased by DEA Helicopter and 'rescued' by the BNA RailRoad Security after riding a mile of their deserted rails

Fried the clutch, bend a rim, and bashed the race exhaust like it was a spam can

Did an "end of life" rear tire burnout, realll guuud, before I handed it over to the service department...

Found the shredded Pirelli's steel cords had spun and wrapped around the whole rear brake/axle etc. HUGE mess...

My technician buddy who had the bad luck to do that tire change had his whole lift and workstation wasted- I did what I could to help clean things up...

I was riding WAY to close to the control rider
He went down
I went down
Vern (Etennuly) went down
Got a free ride to the track hospital.
Free tetanus shot
Free cleansing of open wound with plastic brush.... NOW THAT WAS FUN!!

Tried to start the bike while standing beside it. Bike was in gear, clutch safety switch had worked its way loose and was out of position. Over she went. Of course, five relatives saw it happen.

Got on bike, put up kickstand, turned around to check something in the tail bag, forgot kickstand was up, leaned bike to left to let it rest on kickstand. BLAM!

It is never one thing…it is always a chain of events.

1. Made a jack stand with a particle board base.
2. Jacked the Uly nearly two feet in the air without any hold down straps.
3. Decided that it would be easier to wash the bike while elevated.
4. Went inside to answer the phone while the bike was still on the stand.

Came out to find my Buell taking a nap on its left side…and tried to pick it up right away (therefore no picture) because I thought there would be less damage if I did it fast…didn’t realize that the front wheel was still stuck on the stand…therefore I had to yell for my 100 lb wife to help me pick it up.

Even though the fall from two feet off the ground only scratched the left bag and wind deflector, and slightly bend my handlebars….it was definitely not my shinning moment!!

End-overed it in freeway traffic, breaking the footpeg off with my calf muscle. Leg's fine - foot peg ruined. :-(

Mine was similar to Hughlysses. Put up the kick stand to move it around the garage and then went to put it back down, over it went. I was still holding onto the bars but I just wasn't strong enough to keep it up. Dammit I felt dumb.

Sorry I missed that one... I feel better now...

My adventure up Mount Mitchell alone in the dark and the rain and the fog with ten feet of visibility... that would rate second worst... always had a thing for cute park rangers tho...

A few years back I stuffed my M2 between the headlights of an oncoming Renault van. One of those "forgot which side of the road I was supposed to be on" moments.

I was rolling a bike out for a demo ride and it fell over with me holding onto the handle bars.

It was slow motion. I wasn't able to keep it from falling over, but it slowly fell over onto its side.

Was filling the M2 up while straddling it and decided to let it rest on the sidestand but forgot that I hadn't put it down. Very nearly dropped the bike with the gas hose stuck in the tank and pumping.

I got another kick stand story... came home from work, like I always do, put the kick stand down, leaned the bike over to get off and it kept going over, because this time I forgot to put the kick stand down.
now i'm in the habit of looking down and making sure my kick stand is all way out before I lean her over.

This summer I managed to fill up with diesel fuel. Local dealer if I had just filled up at either gas station A or gas station B. I was at station B. He said it happens all the time from those two stations because of the pump set up is confusing. Luckily I was just topping off, getting on the gas schedule of the rest of the group, but it still ran like crap. At least it still ran though.

I will say that the HD dealer in Traverse City, MI got it diagnosed, flushed, and filled again quickly and for under $90. Saved my extended weekend road trip that day.

Chased a famous bike engineer we all love through the mountains of GA.
That same engineer said it couldn't be fixed with the tools we had.
There are pictures of the repair work.
Proof positive everyone ought to have a log in their tool box!

Once while changing tires, I decided to do both at the same time even though I had no way to hold up the bike without wheels on.
A 2X4 and a cider block holds up well, I just didn't have anything to hold it still.
I got the wheels to Two Brothers, got back to the garage to put the wheels on and while I was putting the front on, over she went.
I caught it before it went all the way over, but I was in between the bike and the wall.
No one was home except for Cody, and he was little then.
I got him to get the phone and I called Charlie.
I'm not sure if it took him 30 minutes to get to me, or if it took him 30 minutes to stop laughing.
Either way that was a long 30 minutes!
