I am pretty sure I read in my bible about a city full of those people like that that he destroyed...

A couple of things on that 1 I believe that it also says a thing or two about judgment as well, secondly if we go off the bible it was destroyed for much more than homosexuality. oh and then there's this tidbit

"Sodom is a derivative of the Hebrew word for "scorched" and Gomorrah is from the Hebrew ‘amar, meaning "a ruined heap",[29] surmising that since these names could only have been given after their destruction, the entire story would have to be fictitious."

I admit I would never make it in the military, as I am abhorrent to any one or any thing having any control over me... wether it a political, religious, or a marital institution.

That being said, there are civilians who do have a little bit of an inkling of what you do sacrifice in the military... they are called spouses, lovers, brothers, sisters, parents and friends... also, those of us who work with veterans who live with the effect of violence on their psyches and bodies every day do have an inkling too...

I acknowledge it is not the same. I acknowledge many people make the sacrifices that are so extreme that they are almost un-thinkable... and I acknowledge that no one has a right answer given this situation...

"under god"?

Who's god? Even the christians themselves can't agree to see their god in the same way? Are there not over 1,000 christain religions that do not agree? Has not Ireland been divided for over a thirty years on this very issue?

How many non-christian soldiers make these same sacrifices every day? Do not they have rights too? It is not about 'political correctness'. If I do have any recollection of American history, ALL are created equal under the law, are they not?

Oh, my Wiki source, says there are OVER 3,800 christian denominations... sounds to me a whole lot of people thinking their way is the only way mistakenly...

Can't wait to see what Blake would say on this, NOT...

Do I think that a gay man should be allowed to enlist and run around with fishnets on screaming his agenda at the top of his lungs --- NO

However he should also not have to live in fear of his preference (for lack of a better word and should conduct himself as a soldier just like everyone else.

Same goes for every one else.

IMHO it needs to be a nonissue.
If sexuality is on people's minds, their minds are not on the job at hand.
I'd rather have soldiers that want to fight and kill the enemy, then worry about their or someone elses sexual orientation.

Religion mixed with politics creating disaster is one of the reasons our country was formed in the first place, is it not?

Wrong. Part of it was keeping politics out of religion, not religion out of politics. Could be too nuanced for some to understand.

Back on topic... If it's not a choice, why not identify the cause and find a cure? If it would be an insane choice to make, then isn't it also inhumane to just let the live with this ridicule while not searching for a treatment?

I think it is a choice. I choose not to take it in the butt and not stick my stuff in some other mans butt. Just like you choose who you want to stick your stuff in or who you let stick there stuff in you.

Sifo do you choose who you are attracted to?

Do you not have preferences that you don't actively choose? Why are some turned on more by blonds or some like rail skinny and some like fat? these aren't choices they are natural electrical or chemical variances in our bodies that predispose us to one type or another.

Drkside, I'm not making any argument that it's a choice. Or not. If the gays tell me it's not a choice that's good enough for me. If it's a not a choice that you would make, such as I would not choose to have liver cancer, wouldn't it be nice to have a treatment. I know I would like a treatment for the liver cancer.

Well as I also don't see it as a disease i can't side with you there.

I just choose to accept that it occurs. I don't care if someone wants to kiss guys. I also would prefer they would not kiss me. I have gay friends with whom I have gone through good times and bad. They have had my back in a fight and I theirs. They are for the guys just like any other.

I did not choose to become a nerd, but became one anyway. I would not want to be "cured", it is part of who I am, not a disease. That is the same way that most gays feel about homosexuality.

The bible I read states there is a way that sounds good to a man. The way I understand it, Jews, Muslims, and Christians seam to have the same god as a creator, but disagree on just what that god has told them to do. The Jews had him first, the Muslims figured out what their version was in about 600 AD. That would be 600 years after the christian's took the Jews god robed in flesh and let the original owners have him killed by the Romans on one of their crosses. Now all that's left for most is to argue who truly worships him in spirit and truth. The Jews said he was one god. The Muslims agree. The Christians agreed with him being only one god till some conference in about 300 AD. And that is not just a source of contention among themselves. I've said this to make the point that if you wish to know about what the truth is, you must search the scriptures. So, get a Koran, a Torah, and a Christian bible(I read lots of versions but prefer the KJV myself) and read them. It is amazing how many religious leaders either can't understand what they read or willfully deceive their followers. Obeidience is better than sacrifice.

Holy cow... some surprisingly ignorant people on here.

A choice? Whatever has already explained why no one would make that choice. I don't need to add anything.

It has nothing to do with upbringing. Explain how two siblings can have different sexual orientations. Explain how gay parents can raise straight children.

It's just the way something is. Did you sit in your room one night and just 'decide' that chicks were hot? No, it just was.

And a disease that could/should be cured? I have brown hair - I think Hitler saw that as a disease as well.

The "under God" argument has been well as well. And anyone who believes that their God would smite someone for being gay... I don't even know where to go with this. Christ said, "Turn the other cheek" and yet you fight in wars, killing others. We're all sinners in one way or another.

For the record, a vaguely remember reading an article in 6th grade that talked about how some scientists thought that there was a very small gland missing in gay people's brains that was present in straight... but that was a long time ago.

In active combat, one person places their life in the hands of another.

Would the knowledge of someone who is openly gay affect the decision making process of another in combat?

Race, sexual orientation, gender?

Would someone choose not to risk their life for another based upon this knowledge?

So, since gay men will get to shower with their sexual preference of naked men, does this mean I'll get to shower with women?

I'm just sayin'.

see brinnutz gets my point...

as too Ft_bstrds comment if you look threw the history books at many of the major wars america has fought in you would know that that indeed is the case many times one race refused to fight along side other races and there was segrigated units for many years as well as jobs in the military that they could not have. Just like today a woman still cannot have a combat mos(or what ever the other branches call them)

I am not saying in this day and age that that would in deed be the case as the military tries very hard with all of its manditory EO training and this and that to turn us in to a kinder more gentle (gay) army but it is possible.

Heh, lets just get Starship Trooper with it and EVERYONE has collective cohabitation and conducts personal hygiene TOGETHER! Wooohoo!

Save money! Go green! "Cohesive", team building cohabitation!

While we are on the topic... why have male and female restrooms in public facilities? Why not just have a unisex bathroom? You never KNOW what gender someone MIGHT be... wouldn't want to offend now would we?

I think that's the fix.

Male to Male Marriage.
Female to Female Marriage.
Unknown Sex to ^ all of the above Marriage.

And ya know what, while we're fixing things... Animal to Male or Female Marriage! It's all about love right? I know some people who REALLY love their animals... a bit too much.

*Disclaimer... lots of sarcasm in that. It's a friendly jest at humor and the logical devolution of our species. I can't wait.

(b) Any person found guilty of sodomy shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.
