The answers on my kit shed thread and Court's windows one inspired me to try this.

2 storey house built in 1914.

Attic floor approx 25'x30', peak running long at about 12'6" high.

Floor in and insulated.

I want to turn it into a home theatre and free space.

I can get a grant if I increase insulation and save energy.

Roof is sound but some of the decking, the wood the shingles are on, look damaged. Cold has popped out some of the knots.

I like the idea of two part foam rather than pink insulation.

I'm not really thinking of anything fancy over it, just drywall. Most of my family and friends are shorter than me so I'm thinking of letting the drywall slope down more to gain more floor area.

So any ideas, cautions, and tips you can give me are really appreciated.

DO NOT SPRAY 2 PART INSUL ON THE UNERSIDE OF THE SHINGLES!!!! wood shingles on wood lathe (the wood decking with spaces in between so you can see the shingles) work because the shings are self venting, meaning that the small gaps between shingles on top of each other allow them to breathe and dry. spray foam would stick to the shingles, not allow them to dry evenly (remember, wood absorbs water) and make it nearly impossible to replace when it's time, and it will be time at some point. with such a high ceiling, consider building a second or lower ceiling that follows the roof line, but allows ventilation for the roofing. then insulate between the new ceiling joists. feel free to pm me for info.

Are you going to condition the space with heat or air? Make sure you ask questions because around here that would be considered a third story and would have to be sprinkled. They may not catch you now but if you ever sold and potential buyers had it inspected it could get deep quick.

Pretty sure, they call it a half storey but I'll check that out. Thanks.

A couple of weekends ago, my wife and I blew in 66 bags of cellulose insulation into the attic.

It has made a WORLD of difference.... and it was pretty easy to do.
The machine had a remote control that I wore on my side so I could turn it on and off when needed.

I have a tv in the garage so the wife watched the tube and would toss a bag/cube on insulation in when it got low.
It took about 5 hours and cost less than $600 bucks
