Anyone able to solder replacement parts onto PC boards?

My GoPro took a tumble and the power button is broken.

Getting the switch is going to be the hardest part. What model camera do you have?

If I can find the switch and there is nothing else damaged I can probably make the repair. I've only briefly looked at that switch when I had mine apart and it is tough to get down to, the top shutter button is a lot easier to get at. However, normally when the switch gets whacked hard enough to break, the3 circuit board is also broken. I can take a look if you want, but I would suggest contacting GoPro and seeing what they are willing to do, the price might be extremely cheap to get a replacement (they do not fix any cameras, no matter what the problem might be). Just tell them how it broke and every story so far they have been pretty willing to replace things at extremely discounted prices (lost or broken devices).

I think there might also be a way to turn it on and off from the GoBus connector on the back of the device, mating connectors can be purchased that mostly fit so you might want to wire up a remote power switch which would be really useful with the 1 button record mode. I may work on this over the weekend as I have a connector to a break out board that I just need to modify a little bit to make fit my camera.

Probably surface mount parts, the really tiny ones, right?

It's tricky but often times it can be done. Find somebody with young eyes and a steady hand. : )

If all else fails and you are ready to toss it, ship it to me and I will see what I can do...

The switches are surface mount, but not that difficult if you can find a proper replacement. Again I'll take a look at it if you want, but contact GoPro before committing to send it to anyone because you might be surprised. There is a thread on RCGRoups in the FPV forum where the camera has been almost completely disassembled that might be of interest to anyone owning one of these cameras.

And there is a way to turn it on from the connector on the back, I'm still working on other functions. that will take a while because I left a bunch of parts at work.

I still have it apart, and will try to take a pic of the needed switch.
