This is about frame and tank grip pads. If you would like to make your own here is what I did. Not all my projects turn out well but I'm completely satisfied with this ones results. I found some rubber pad material (pictures below) at a place called Rubber Cal for obvious reasons. Its called x-derm and I bought a sheet of it 36" x 60" .060 thick for $30.75 plus $9.88 shipping to my house. I did my 1125R after making patterns and only used about 15" by the 36" width of it making five pieces, frame sides, airbox sides and buckle guard. Plenty enough left to do many more bikes or whatever. Attached with silicone glue so its removable but sticks real well and enough to stay put and very flexible to conform well. I like the idea of better grip and these have good grip but still are thin enough so I can hang off and reverse easily in the twisties. Looks good! I have the frame grip pads from American Sport Bike. They work great, also. | ||

What kind of silicone glue did you use? | ||

Gabriel(Wisperstealth), I used GE clear, Window door, 3hr rain ready, sun-freeze proof I got at Home Depot. It seems to have the best adhesion I have found for outdoor use. I also used alcohol on the surfaces before attaching. | ||

Thanks Bob! I'd like to try this project out sometime. Been wanting to know of a good glue that works outdoors on plastic, that I'm guessing comes in a large tube. I've used RTV silicone glue from permatex before and like it, but tubes are small. BTW: Your the first person here to use my name, kinda caught me off guard. | ||

That looks really nice. Is that stuff hard to cut? You wouldn't want to sell the rest of that sheet would you, or maybe 15-20" of it? (Message edited by jandj_davis on October 04, 2010) |
