Not looking for the latest gadget or most advanced deal, just a simple camera I can take for a ride and get some decent video. One on-line place has the go pro for $150 and the vholdr for $225.
Suggestions/comments appreciated.

Look at the drift X170 or the Drift 170HD. Webbikeworld seems to like the Drift better than the GoPro, and I still have a bit of a sore spot from GoPro so it isn't really on my recommended list right now.

By your price on the GoPro I assume you do not want HD.

Also of consideration (but not water resistant) is the cheapo Sony Bloggie at about $130 which will shoot HD video, seemed to do a decent job the single time I tried I on my cycle, but only records for a maximum of 29 minutes at a time. The form factor is a little odd so it may not be the best choice.

150/139 one might be the SD go-pro (suckage)

The HD version is the one you want it should be in the 250-300 price range.

I have not used the the drift, but on paper it seems like it would be better than the gopro and vholr cams.

I would buy the gopro HD over the Vholdr Contour. I have owned both.

1st Gopro HD test:

GoPro HD on the air cooled machines is not something I would suggest. The Drift is supposed to be better but I have not tried it. If I get around to it, there is one more test I want to try with my GP HD and that is hanging under the turn signal now that they finally have the up/upd mode available. After that if the vibrations still are too much I'll probably sell it. No fun looking at the jello.

They are all CMOS chipped cams with a rolling shutter. They all use the same style chip that has can produce the "Jello" side effect. The only difference in "Jello" you will notice will come from how the cam is mounted to reduce vibes.

Barker, you so smart! Now I know why it does that...

I have a VholdR. I've never used a Go Pro, but l like my VholdR well enough, though I don't use it much.

The Drift reviews say it has less jello than other cameras, the only thing I can think of is that they are running it at a faster electronic shutter speed. The Bloggie also shows less jello than the GoPro, not easy to mount on anything though.

Also this is a better explanation of rolling shutter:

I have a vhold and hero. The hero is a battery hog. The vhold has so much battery life that with a bigger memory card it is very nice and records for hours, I also love the aiming lasers.

I would buy the vhold contour again.
