Do you really need it so bad you can't wait? Then you do it in a crowd and think it will not draw any attention? I am curious if a employee tipped off the news crew or if it was stumbled upon when the president visited the plant?

I've seen it at other plants. Something to think about. People that drive fork trucks, etc. at Chry. have to wear the reflective vests.

How many workers are there at that plant. I'd say that the majority don't do this.

For these guys, immediate termination and revocation of ALL retirement income and post retirement medical benefits.

Probably won't happen though.

If they are on their lunch break they can do whatever they want. At my last job (union), someone took a company car to NYC on his lunch, got busted by the police with a hooker, and all that happened was he was written up for unauthorized use of the car.

FT,

Termination, okay. But revocation of retirement, thats wrong. What people have worked for they should get, even if they haven't done the best job possible. Can you say for a 100% fact they have done this since day one of being hired. The whole thought that an entire career can be wiped out, is just another reason why many workers half ass it. It does not motivate toward the positive, it does the opposite.

Just another small drop in the bucket of reasons never to by a chrysler product. I swear they could screw up a doghouse design.

When some people really work hard, and take pride in what they do, whether they build something, or provide service, or whatever, douches like these are riding the coattails of really hard working people. Union or not they should be fired. I don't care if they were on their break.

Johnny, you don't think the guys at Ford or GM are doing it? I have a Jeep with over a quarter of a million miles, not one part of the drivetrain has been rebuilt. Chrysler is not alone I can assure you.

I know black. Hell these things go on anywhere. I have a grudge against chrysler for making jeep one of the most expensive poorest performing suvs on the market. They can spend all the money they want making patriotic commercials but they have a long ways to go getting my hard earned money.

I agree, back in the 90's they were on track, but with the onslaught of the stupid Patriot, and Liberty and Compass it took away from their core(to coin an HD term) models and quality suffered.

Yes revocation of benefits as a warning to others.

If you enjoy benefits secured by others and fail to appreciate them, you lose them.

If I was terminated for cause like this, I'd lose my benefits.

The sense of entitlement that would allow someone to believe this is appropriate myst be snuffed out. There is no telling when this behavior started. Harsh punishment will help ensure this mindset doesn't take root in those who come after.

I thought the UAW promoted excellence.

When I worked at a gas station/repair shop,it was totally OK to go to the local tap for noon meal or supper and have "a" beer with it(70's). When painting highways and airport runways it was common to go on a beer run near the end of the day and have one on the boss,on the clock, with the crew to wind down.
Current job,no alcohol is allowed on the property.....and that's OK..........I don't live or die for a cool one..............

Much ado about little. It happens at work every day, every where. When they have cameras in the parking lot, they guys who want a beer or whatever go to the closest place. Where they don't, it's actually safer for the community, in terms of road hazards.

I've seen scenes like "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" where 6 guys spill out of a smoke filled van right after the foreman checks the lot.

So, busted for intoxication, lose your job? Pretty standard and rational rule. Lose all benefits accrued to date? Not as fair IMHO. But, the rule some shops have. You know it when you sign up, or you're a fool.

Unsafe intoxication ( call it .85 bac or equivalent, for an arbitrary rule ) while operating heavy machinery, or in hazardous jobs, is a bad thing. Others will disagree with me on appropriate punishment. I bet the Lohan family does.

As far as the royal indignation at a few bozos goes, it's silly and not productive.

The idea that these guys are hurting the taxpayer, as part owners in Chrysler? bogus.

The "takeover" has weird and illegal aspects to it, ( not that I WANTED Chrysler and GM to vanish in a cloud of debt & bad management ) but we don't own the company. Maybe the Prez thinks he can run the Auto industry like Mussolini, but the "peoples property" aspects of this are propaganda, no matter whos' pimping the concept. "We" own the parks and wild lands....period. I may have paid through the nose for a F16 nose gear, but I don't get to take it home or tell some General what to do with it.

Now, the Idea that GM or Chrysler can contribute money {Bribes} to political causes while living on taxpayer money, I DO find offensive.

As I do the other companies & Unions who get my money, through the govt., giving it to politicians for... ah heck, Bribes...

As far as the cars go, While I was looking forward to the hybrid minivan, I haven't like the styling of Chryslers stuff for a while. just opinion.

I actually think the quality at Chrysler dropped when they were with Daimler, and was coming back.... So this is the your last chance to get a new Viper. Post pics.

ya, they should get canned. ButI've worked in several different industries and they all have some alcaholics working there. Even some where maybe they aren't alcaholics but have a beer on the lunch break. Not sure how that's BO's fault..

I honestly don't know, but I've never heard of anyone being tested. I was never tested, not even when I applied. Didn't matter as I was clean, but I didn't want to ask and raise a suspicion.

Occasionally while out on lunch with co-workers, they may get a beer with the meal, but it wasn't like they were going back to work smashed.

It's obviously still a race issue.

The predominantly black crowd was truly inspired by Obama's speech and is currently hard at work on the assembly line.

Meanwhile the small group of white males who didn't pay attention to their presidential pep talk is at the park puffing and passing.

Company policy where I work allows one drink with an hour lunch (maybe dinner or breakfast depending on the shift, I'll need to recheck that).

Kinda odd though since we are also not supposed to drink within six hours of coming to work. So I guess our policy needs a tune up to get everything to line up properly.

Workers work, managers manage.

Managers don't manage, this is what happens.

I hear crap about the workers earning their pay, the managers should earn their pay and use the shop rules to clean this kind of stuff up.

Lazy work creates more work, whether you're on the floor or management. Follow the process, do the "due diligence" and win your case.

Termination here results in the loss of most of the retirement benefits but not the basic amount.Think service versus merit.

btw, I'm hard core union, an elected representative, and I can't say much more on a social network.

I wonder if there are any other workers who might be in jeopardy of physical injury when one of these drunk/high line workers goes back on the job.

If they kill someone, do you think they should lose their benefits?

Would that be too stiff a penalty for the life of a co-worker?
