Firemen, Sheriff dept and Police. Let me give you the background... Saturday afternoon, about 5pm. My wife and I were sitting out back and enjoying a few prosciutto wrapped figs with Prosecco. Yep.. I know. LA It was a very warm afternoon about 106F with single digit humidity and a slight breeze. My wife looks up and says: "Are clouds moving in?" I look up and wonder the same. They were out of place given the weather. I few minutes later we hear sirens. Nope, those are not clouds. It is smoke. I go down to the end of the street to get a better read of the situation. Sure enough, theres a fire about a mile away over by the 57 freeway. Sheriffs were out re-directing the traffic and I ask one of them what gives. Fire started by the freeway by a faulty catalytic converter. I ask, do we need to evacuate? Answer.. nope, we got our assets working it. By now, there were three helicopters dousing the flames from a nearby reservoir. And "now" is 15 minutes since we discovered the "clouds" overhead. We went in to fix dinner and when that was done, the whole affair was over. Amazing reaction, action and execution by LA county finest!! arson is no joking matter. one pyro-kid can cause millions in damages, not to mention lives. back in teh day, the whole 'village mob' mentality came on strong when our area got set ablaze. |
