I took my 09 1125R (4k miles) in because the clutch slave cylinder is pissing all over the bike. That warranty repair will be at least a 4 week wait because of backorders. I also wanted my gauge cluster replaced under warranty. The screen along the bottom is dying slowly. The pixels are going black, like a dark slow growing blob. Defiantly a defect in the part. This is something I noticed when I first got the bike, and I figure this is a good time to get that fixed under warranty while I am waiting on the clutch parts. Sooooooo, I get a call today from my very reputable Buell dealer. They tell me that they can replace the gauge cluster, but only once. "HD has a new policy on certain parts, they will replace them only once." So, he advised me to wait until the end of my warranty period and bring it in then. WTF? Has anyone else run into this "We will only fix the problem once." I'm looking for a copy of the written warranty. Can they do this? |

Legally I don't think they can. Though, with HD the way they are right now, wouldn't surprise me if they would try this bs. |

It's a load of manure. Have you gone up the chain of command yet? Customer service and stuff? |

Yamaha pulled that crap on me back in the '70s. Never bought another one, and never will. |

Be prepared, I went to the top of the chain of command regarding my warranty and I still got screwed. HD has ruined it for me for future bike purchases.... |

I have only had the one conversation with the one dealer service rep. I will talk with him again next week to make sure I understand his position 100% before I move up the chain. I am only a goods night rest and one more mechanical failure away from selling the entire fleet and buying some euro trash moped. WX is great this long weekend, and I cant seem get any one of the 3 Buells operational. |

"HD has a new policy on certain parts, they will replace them only once." Hopefully it's with a Superceded and improved part. Got my XBr headlights which burnt up replaced by BMC.An improved part i was told. Yep.An improved part that hasn't shown "the sign" of failure.Knock on wood. But i wouldn't reasonably expect BMC (OR HD) to continue to "good will"/replace a weak (?) part free of charge. poor engineering happens. My 996Duc has a renowned clutch slave for failure. It's because of it's the very close proximity to the drive chain. In 2001 there was a superceded part (which fits) that fixes the problem(MOSTLY). I chose to stock up on the cheap piston seals and dust boots CHEAPLY.I have some on the shelf and occasionally overhaul MY slave. (Message edited by DucXl on September 03, 2010) |

Barker, its not like clusters burn out like light bulbs, assuming you don't have some other electrical issue like a bad VR that would overload it. Even though it sounds fishy about they would only replace it once, thats probably all you would ever need. Plus the newest cluster has the good LFL sensor settings so it wont trigger the CEL. |

I think you have been given inaccurate informatio n. I do not know which state in which you reside but if they tried to play that game on me . . . ( I live in NY ) . . . I know precisely what I'd do. The game would end in 40 days with the score: Court - 1 HD - 0 Treating people stupidly, although currently in vogue at HD, is unwise. Play to win. |

Hahahahaha..... Better yet..... Try thinking like they do. Tell them that if they don't do everything you want you will move out of Wisconsin.

Barker, I would tell them to change it out NOW. Then if it goes bad prior to the warranty expiring, I'd tell them to change it again. Don't sign anything giving up your rights to a future replacement. Fight that battle if it comes around when it comes around. Enjoy a new cluster now. |

Court I think Barker is in Tennessee... I would call Hal's-in New Berlin WI... tomorrow and talk to Dave in parts... or call Bud in sales and see what they have to say... I am waiting on a warranty part myself... most of the douche canoes at HD don't give a crap about servicing Buells... but the guys at Hal's are very good and will do whatever they can to help you... |

I'd get it fixed before they run out of replacements. Buying a filter for the XB today at a non-Buell HD dealer. They've been great to me in the past and told me they stock the filters because they are the same as the Blast in their Riders Edge program. For some reason today the parts guy doesn't want to sell me a filter because they aren't a Buell dealer. WTF??? After explaining there's no way in hell I'm buying the oil I have sitting on the counter without the filter he went and got me a filter from the stock room. I just don't get the attitude. My last oil change I was at my closest Buell dealer and the parts lady tried telling me they weren't really a Buell dealer anymore. Funny thing all their literature still claims them to be a Buell dealer. |

I call BULLSHIT(dealer)not Barker. This is what I do,if it fails at no fault of the operator,it is a defect. H-D is obligated to repair. |

+1 on Ourdee's suggestion. Tell them to take care of the gauge's right now. If you wait until the end of your warranty... it's guaranteed they will fix it only once. |

If I am not mistaken, warranty falls under insurance, so you should be able to take your case to the state insurance commission and file a complaint. Good luck. |

Harley did the same thing with the cracking S3 saddlebags. I remember being told by the jerkoff from H-D who rejected my dealer's claim that if I was breaking so many bags that I must be abusing the bags. "Everything old is new again" |

IF H-D's position on this is true, it is news to me. I will find out more, and let you know sometime next week (after the holiday weekend). T |

A factory defective part must be replaced as many times as it fails within the warranty period. After the warranty period ends, either by time or mileage. The manufacturer has no further obligation to replace the same part, again, even if there is a CM part developed... An exception would be if said part was involved in a Safety Recall. |

It was a way we at AutoZone got the customer to either: 1: go to a different store, or 2: fix the problem that is causing "our" part to go bad. We would say things like " we're gonna replace it this time, but if it comes back in it will be at your cost". Bottom line is we replaced the part as many times needed. Not exactly the same thing because we're talking aftermarket vs stock parts. My point is, no they cannot deny the warranty claim any more than we could. It is just talk to try to get you to never come back about that particular claim. |

Thank you for all of your comments and suggestions. Especially Tnxbrider. I plan on visiting the service desk in person next week to make sure I understand my options. In the mean time I'm going to go wash off an Ultra Classic and take it for a long ride. |

Barker, you just need to sell me that 1125 for a track bike for $5. It's not worth much more. I'll take it off your hands because I such a nice guy. LOL! |
