+1, Scott Holt- he played the blues club downtown a week or 2 ago. Great show! Same place will be having Ben Prestage this Wednesday. Woohoo!!! S3- I doubt you'll find that K-town disc anywhere except 1 place online that listed it for sale, new for $18- WORTH EVERY PENNY TWICE OVER. Not that I'm trying to sell ya something, just that a dude into music like you should really have it. OK- time to contribute: Had some guy at my bar claim to be a professional DJ- he'd forgotten/maybe not heard of The Egyptian Lover!!! Had to fix him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FilJ0gt0zQk&feature =related "WHAT IS A DJ IF HE CAN'T SCRATCH WHAT IS AN MC IF HE CAN'T RAP WHAT IS A BEAT WITHOUT A LIVE CLAP AND I CAN DO IT ALL BABY JUST LIKE THAT" |

This band should have been huge.Their individual talents led to infighting and personal changes compounded with producer/label issues kept them from the top. From the late 60's thru the 70's they put out killer country rock records that failed to chart. Many players went on to mega hit bands. One of the originals, this is POCO. First chance I've had to do more than skim here for a while. Today I give you Al Wilson, who passed on a couple of years back. The man had a superb voice, first a couple of great soul ballads, including his #1 "Show & Tell". Then his first recording which was for Johnny Rivers no less. It didn't do much in the US but later became a Northern soul dancefloor classic in the UK. Show & Tell http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJssAZmS_90 Now I know what love is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTEunxwtHLo The Snake http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZrxDWzl5PA |

"Child of the Wind" I love the pounding of hooves I love engines that roar I love the wild music of waves on the shore And the spiral perfection of a hawk when it soars Love my sweet woman down to the core There's roads and there's roads And they call, can't you hear it? Roads of the earth and roads of the spirit The best roads of all Are the ones that aren't certain One of those is where you'll find me Till they drop the big curtain CHORUS: Hear the wind moan In the bright diamond sky These mountains are waiting Brown-green and dry I'm too old for the term But I'll use it anyway I'll be a child of the wind Till the end of my days Little round planet In a big universe Sometimes it looks blessed Sometimes it looks cursed Depends on what you look at obviously But even more it depends on the way that you see CHORUS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'd mentioned him before, but this lyric is from a 1991 recording from Bruce Cockburn, "Nothing But a Burning Light". I'd loaned it to my sister years ago- she returned it to me a couple of weeks ago when she came to visit. I'd forgotten how powerful this music is, what a great lyricist and musician Cockburn is- recommended for youn's collections if you care to go find it, every song is remarkable...

Yes I have Squids and I like the vast majority of it. It's really funny to me how the marketable type stars make it big with debatable talents while those with more will toil in obscurity their whole careers. I hope this tread makes a fan or two of some of those artists lost in the mix. I can keep this alive at least another year with obscure talent. I hope others post up their favorite obscure or local favs. These players are from New York and have at least a half dozen records out. They play a lot of folk type stuff and feature a unique style and vocalist. This is the WIYOS.
