No cat on the XB's Many bikes have a cat built in to the muffler where you don't even see it. I think the 1125s are that way.

No cats on domestic XB and 1125's, but they are in most if not all HDI models since 2008. The cat is contained within the muffler.

The day that straight pipe was ruining an otherwise great ride on some otherwise great roads, there was a Uly with a Micron along.

The Uly was louder than stock for sure, but didn't make my brain hurt. So just one opinion (for what that's worth).

In my alter ATV life, we have a saying. "Loud Pipes close trails"

I greatly appreciate a race machine at full song, and the people that live near race tracks or riding areas will just have to deal with it.

But riders with an ear splitting exhaust booming down the road and revving the shit out of their bike when they leave for work in the morning are inconsiderate assholes.

"The freeway out here is more dangerous than a racetrack and 80% of the drivers aren't paying attention, so if my loud pipes let my existence known to them just a little while they are eating"

Use the horn. On demand vs continuous.

I had a G-Force race can on the M2 for a while & it sounded great but it was more trouble than it was worth.

I got grief from the security people at work (& this is a busy transport yard!)

I got grief from the cops.

But worst of all the wife didn't like me waking the whole house at stupid o'clock in the morning when I had an early start.

The final kicker was when one of my neighbours, who's a dyed-in-the-wool biker, that lives 1/2 a mile away, told me he could hear me from inside his house when I left mine.

It's still gathering dust in the garage.

My morning rant - and I haven't even (yet) had my second cuppa...

I don't give a dam* whether you ride a Buell, a Hardley or some other machine. If you think having loud-assed pipes is somehow tied to your first amendment rights, you DESERVE the screwing you're going to get by the laws and stiffer enforcement that you are bringing down on your head.

Bigger problem is that you're bringing down the laws and increased enforcement on ALL OF OUR HEADS.

Being an A$$HOLE is your naturally-born right. Being a LOUD A$$HOLE means you are just an A$$HOLE... with noise.

Please take the time to review South Park's "The F Word" episode to see how you are viewed by society at large. Don't preach about some mythical "right" you have to piss everybody off because it "might" save you in some artificial situation.

Like Ozzie said: use your horn.

Do not tell the entire population to HTFU, you must STFU because you are outvoted by the other VOTER-TAXPAYERS that you are making angry.

Lack of control of the right wrist is evidenced in unnecessary noise on motorcycles, excessive beer consumption and masturbation.

With the "system" I have on my 1125R I'm producing some great H.P. and yes some louder exhaust note, but compared to the F-16's and F22 Raptors flying in and out of the air base a mile away its nothing. And I glad I live in one of the few states where freedom still rings loudly. Pun intended. Just learn to control the "loud pedal" (throttle), where needed, and the man won't even know you're around. Common sense guys. Ride safe always, Bob

Use the horn.

I do.

You guys' rants are directed in the wrong place. Perhaps this should be taken to the XL Forum? I understand your disdain for obnoxiously loud fishtails or straight pipes, or whatever. I don't like it either, especially the high rpm whines on Jap bikes. My exhaust is loud, but I don't make it loud in the inappropriate places, stop lights, parking lots, my neighborhood. In over 3 years I have never had a complaint, from anyone. There are already noise ordinance laws in California that don't get enforced, hell there are cell phone laws that don't get enforced. I have ridden next to the CHP more than once just cruising by me at 80mph and they never bat an eye, or ear.

You guys are talking about guys being a-holes, that have loud pipes. I have yet to ride with a Bueller that has changed their exhaust that has not enjoyed the sound it makes, nor have I heard them be obnoxious with it. Most seem to be pretty responsible.

I LIKE my D&D, but my right wrist has impeccable control, in all three(there is no masturbation smiley so I substituted shooting my gun) in case noone got that

I like the indian/arrow analogy.

I run a race can on my XB12...and I don't think it's too loud. But then again, I'm the guy that has enough decency to push his bike down the street to the front of a vacant lot in between houses when he cranks up at 06:00 in the morning, and then keeps his ham-fist in a backpack until he gets out of the neighborhood.

It's very simple; I just keep it under 2K RPM in neighborhoods and have never had a complaint.

Quiet those bikes down, and wear that helmet and gear!

Next, outlaw that racing business, I'm sick of my insurance being so high because of your reckless behavior. Call your congressman today!

Dunno about the US, but most race circuits in Europe have noise regs these days.
Straight thru' race cans are becoming a thing of the past.

A good mate, races an old 250 Moto Guzzi 2 stroke twin, in the classic class, & he can't run the expansion chambers without the cans on due to the noise.

It sounds absolutely awesome without them, but it's verging on painful when it's on song.

Hey Froggy, thanks for directing me here!

I posted this on the 1125 board because I didn't know this was here.

It may have been said in the archives already, but life is very different in rural areas vs big urban areas. I live in Motorcycle Nirvana up here in Ukiah, CA and we are a thriving bike community with Harleys, Ducs, some Jap bikes and adventure bikes. I live on a rural road about 1/8 of a mile from a well used country road and listen to bikes pass all the time. In fact, if I'm outside, I look over to see what they are riding and enjoy the sound!

I practically live over at my Harley/Buell dealership and surpisingly haven't seen any bikes with the "stupid loud" no baffle straight pipes. I don't like those things either. However my Rinehart on my Harley is pure music and so is the Barker on my 1125CR (which is the louder of the two I think) and I would hate to loose the privalage of having it.

Like another poster wrote, I "tip toe" through any town I pass through at low rpm on the Buell to keep the noise passable and respect the neighbors.

This blanket law is out of control big goverment stupid and Arny should flush it down the toilet where it belongs.

I have had supertrapps (2), HP, Stealth, & standard pipes and of all of them this one on my S1 I like best.

It is loud - but not anti-social ?

My Uly has a stealth that has got louder. I want to replace it with a drummer (to match the Erik Buell Racing ECM) - anyone got a drummer I can buy ?

This summer I was up at my brothers house near Traverse City, MI. Late at night you could hear a pair of I4s racing around the county roads. You could hear them miles away! I'm not talking a couple of minutes as they went down the road we were on. You could tell when they slowed for stop signs & intersections. We heard them for at least 20 minutes while they raced around the area. He said he hears that pair all the time. It's only a matter of time before a deer gets em though.
