I only glanced at it but heard it go by as being a Diesel. It was about the size of a smartcar. I don't think it was though. must get crazy sick fuel economy! what the hell was it? | ||

Smart is available in diesel. 3 pot mercedes turbo unit, performs way better than the petrol version. (except the hayabusa powered, of course) | ||

The first version of the Smart car available in Canada only came in the diesel version. There are probably a thousand of them still scooting around various metro areas of Canada. I would bet that is what you saw | ||

The Aixam & it's rivals are called microcars here or more commonly "voiture sans permis" Car with no licence, meaning you don't need a drivers licence to drive it. Top whack is about 35mph, runs a CVT with a single or twin n/a diesel. Personally I'd rather walk. Saw one hit by a truck once, fortunately nobody in it, it disintegrated in a shower of dust & glass fibre. I doubt that's what you saw in Quebec as I wouldn't think it would get past the vehicle import regs. They sound just like a piece of diesel plant equipment, such as a generator. Because that's where the engines are sourced. Robin, Lombardini, etc. They're a bloody nuisance on the road too. | ||

Here's an ad for one for sale in Montreal. Diesel. Looks like it still has a Euro plate, though. http://www.adoos.ca/post/6077271/voiture_sans_perm is_aixam_scooty U.S. regs now allow operation of certain speed-limited vehicles for use on residential streets only. In Seattle, we see mostly EVs in this category. I wouldn't be surprised if there were similar allowances in Canada for a vehicle like the Aixam. | ||

Perhaps it was an older smart car then. It didn't sound like a twin. Also the RPM changed so probably not CVT. |
