Sunny and I met a very interesting person there on Suday, Danielle Hebert.

Danielle is a recording artist, musician, sculptor and graphic artist who is doing a trans-Canadian, Trans-USA motorcycle trip and was about 12,500 miles into it - and until she arrived at Newcomb's, had NO IDEA this event was on!

She got up Sunday morning intending to see Angeles Crest Highway – not knowing there would be HUNDREDS of sportbikes at Newcomb’s. We had JUST parked and removed our helmets when she rolled up asking what it was all about.

We started talking – turns out that she started her road trip a few months ago after finishing her last recording session in Nashville. She started by selling nearly everything she owned in Vancouver, British Columbia, puting the rest in storage. She packed her gear on her 1983(!!!) GS750 and just hit the road.

Turns out she’s doing a concert in Altadena this Saturday. A number of us who got to know her Sunday are going to head over the hill to the Coffee Gallery in Altadena – well worth your time!

Sunny and I are going – but DRIVING.

Following an opening act at 8PM, Danielle is on at 9. She'll be setting out a tip jar to collect enough $$ to get back on the road, fresh tires and brakes, chain and sprockets (both tires and rear brake are USED UP). You will need reservations. http://funkylittlecoffeehouse.com/ - show up, put some coins in her jar - between sets, you MUST talk to her about her ride!!!

Go to the beginning of her blog - She's now over 12,500 miles into her sojourn.

I realize most folks reading this are "out of towners" but if ONE OR TWO of you can make it, you'll see some familiar faces.

If you go to her website, you can hear some audio samples from her previous CDs – and her blog tells much more of the story than I can do justice.

Hope to see a few folks stopping in Altadena on Saturday (28th)

SUPPORT LIVE PERFORMANCE ART! - the original 3D experience (without the silly glasses)

Satuday night – BE THERE (reservations strongly suggested - it's a small venue)

See youz on Saturday. We still need to make arrangements to pick up the bag!

We'll be stopping in for sandwiches at the Coffee Gallery. It's a great, casual venue. We saw The Bobs there a year ago. http://www.bobs.com

Way deep, bud. Better just call it a dime, lol.

I'd love to make the ride all they out to SoCal AGAIN to support a fellow mega-miler, but time and funds won't allow, unfortunately.

I feel that I should be posting a memorable quote-a-day. Once in a while one really stands out:

quote:

And maybe it’s because all these people are asking me what my plans are “when I get home” and I don’t have a home. Don’t get me wrong I’m not worried about finding a place to stay. Or worried because I don’t have one… It’s mostly that I still don’t know where home will be and I am terrified of making the wrong choice. As if this is all my last chance.

The road has unleashed the wild horse in me. Halfway down to California I realized how “dead” I had been for so long. And I cried and laughed and screamed under that helmet and I rejoiced as I felt that long standing chill in my bones melt away. Halfway down across the continent I saw again that I could face anything. I could be in the moment. I could forgive and move on.

Went back down today to help change out tail lights. There had been a short in one and the stalks were just cracked and due to be changed. Looks like she'll be staying on another week.

She's got some time in a studio doing the review of her last album and it NEEDS work she says. She'll be spending days under headphones with notepad. MIGHT do another night at the Gallery... stay tuned.

YES - it is ON!

Danielle is going to play Sunday the 12th in the Backstage at Coffee Gallery. Show starts at 7, cover is $15 (split with the house) and they're going to let her collect money in a tip jar to add to her travel budget. She'll be backed by Forrest Robinson (percussion/vocals) and Duane Thorin (guitar/vocals) - both serious talents in their own right.

I'll be getting copies of the poster in next day. It's short notice but IF anybody is anywhere near LA next Sunday, you MUST join us at the Coffee Gallery.

If you haven't yet read it, her blog is worth your time. http://daniellehebert.wordpress.com

This is an interesting time for Danielle - she's a "known" performer in Canada, just now being discovered "down South."

After Sunday, she heads out to continue her ride ... until it is complete.

From the Coffee Gallery flyer:

quote:

DANIELLE HEBERT ...... rides into the Coffee Gallery Backstage.
This is her first U.S. concert performance since she she sang the Canadian national anthem to open the Olympics in February, (in front of 30,000.) You saw her if you watched the opening ceremonies. Passionate singing and playing! Featuring percussionist Forrest Robinson. Opening, hosting, and supplying backup vocals will be Duane Thorin.

This multiple award winning Canadian composer and chanteuse comes with compelling yet nuanced voice, and intricate guitar phrasings. A valued treasure from the North has come to town.
With a rich full voice and songs that have been acclaimed as folky, rocky, ethereal and deeply moving, Danielle Hebert will take you deep into her world, and your own emotions as well. Mesmerizing, and a perfect match for the gallery's intimate confines and audience, her French accent will touch on the exotic. She is winner of two Canadian "grammys", the Juno Award, and multiple songwriting awards.

Altadena is honored to be the only town visited twice by Danielle on her amazing one woman motorcycle trek around the United States. Her 13,000 mile trip is as famous on the internet's Blogosphere as are her musical accomplishments. She can claim a loyal following of both music lovers and cycle enthusiasts, all captivated by the drama and passion of a great adventuress. .

FORREST ROBINSON will be providing world class percussion to support it all. Although not a stranger to the Coffee Gallery, and an actual Altadena resident, Forrest travels the globe as percussionist for such "world music" and multi genre acts as Utada Hikaru, Crusaders, Joe Sample, Jonathan Brooke, India.Arie, and Angelique Kidjo.

DUANE THORIN has starred here at the gallery as the driving force behind the Bohemian Soul Rustlers, as well as sibling balladeer with the Swinging Armani Brothers. He brings a rich baritone, romantic balladry, and a lively witty presence to open the show and introduce Danielle and Forrest to the gallery audience.
.
Prepare for top notch and memorable excitement.
