Or

Good Lord man! Try to comprehend. What you claim is something that I found comes from YOUR source. They are just using it to make a different and unsubstantiated point. This is the same way that the same source (your source) came up with the 1% owning 83% thing. It's just that this information refutes the 1% thing, by a large margin. That's just dishonest representation of the information that they have collected. Either you are completely stupid and can't see that or you are being just as dishonest.

I haven't done anything to refute your source yet. All I've done is show that they are full of BS according to their own data. Is it really honest to claim 83% when the data you have in the same piece clearly shows less than 51%? Are you even able to comprehend this?

good lord man, try to comprehend! the point you are clinging to is completely irrelevant. it is not a game changer. the article - and all articles about distribution of wealth - still paint the same picture of what's happened to the distribution of wealth over the past 40 years. but, so you do not have to deal w/the gist of what the overwhelming body of evidence indicates, you cling to this one inane fact that there's one error in one particular article, like some baby clinging to its pacifier. keep sucking away...

Doug,

You claimed that the poor in America are getting poorer. The evidence you provided has been soundly shown to be dishonest. The poor in America are better off now than ever before. This based on standard of living. America has the fattest "poor" folks on the planet.

Other of your evidence has been shown false or inaccurate.

"You can believe what you want."

Close-minded ideologues who shun truth and rational objective analysis do that. In the face of compelling truth that opposes their mindset, they will offer "you can believe what you want."

Honorable intellectually honest folks concede a point in the face of convincing evidence.

You claimed that there are more wealthy Americans now. That is true. How can that be a bad thing?

How many poor folks create new jobs?

How many poor folks pay income tax?

Poor folks do in an ancillary way pay income tax since ALL corprations that aim to earn a profit must pass their income tax on to the consumer.

It makes no sense to burden corporations, businesses, with heavy taxes. It only helps to chase them offshore.

Socialism is blatantly anti-American and anti-freedom.

I'm reading The 5000 Year Leap; pretty good book. Glitch and Jerry Haughton were right! Anyone interested in learning about the intents and concerns of our nation's founders owes it to themselves to read that book.

I got it on the phone via kindle for $7. No cut and paste though! LOL

you guys are in dream land. because somebody found one stat to be off, i have prowided dishonest ewidence? jeez...

the poor in america better off than ever before? cuz the ones that aren't underfed are overweight? and the poor are unereducated? you know, a lot of folks are fat cuz it actually costs more to eat healthy. and, when you cannot afford to do anything else, you eat.

what i claimed is that the wealthy now own a larger percentage of everything than they did 40 years ago, and it's been steadily increasing. the rich are getting richer, the poor are getting poorer, and the middle class is shrinking. approximately 15% of the population lives below what is considered "the poverty line", and this equates to ~$21k for a family of four. wow. i don't know how a family of four could have a decent life today at twice that income.

"..."You can believe what you want.

Close-minded ideologues who shun truth and rational objective analysis do that. In the face of compelling truth that opposes their mindset, they will offer "you can believe what you want.

Honorable intellectually honest folks concede a point in the face of convincing evidence..."

if that isn't the best example i have seen of the pot calling the kettle black, i dunno what is.

again, cuz it's clear y'all are a bit slow, i will show how america compares to the rest of the civilized world. ya know, where all those "socialists" ruin everyone's "freedom"...

This "list" of rankings among different countries is meaningless without some interpretation of the data. None of the countries that surpass the US in numerous categories has a large immigrant population. I wonder where Finland and S. Korea would rank in English comprehension. Our schools have a large percentage of first generation immigrants who came here speaking another language.

I can bet you that none of these homogeneous countries has a large minority class that is being disserved by gov't provided built-in excuses for poor performance and low expectations.

Quality of life is subject to the whims of those who decide what that quality is. If my town has no museums but has access to great outdoor activities is our quality of life better than worse than those with the opposite?

As to longevity of life, I always encourage people to move to Minnesota. You won't actually live longer, it'll just feel like it.

Doug, we've seen that listing of stats before. Part of the problem is the source. It is not without bias.

As an example, that WHO report on healthcare (debated ad nauseum in a previous thread) was extremely biased and unrealistic.

As an example, here is a breakdown of some of the criterion used for evaluating rankings:

http://www.photius.com/rankings/world_health_syste ms.html

Much of the ranking is driven by distribution and financial aspects rather than real a legitimate health criteria.

What the rankings DON'T factor in is that the rest of the world's healthcare is improved by the technology and innovations created by the US system. Remove profit (and profitability) from the US system and the world's healthcare suffers.

Yes more people have access but to lesser and lesser care.

I don't trust ANYTHING from the UN. They have proven time and time again NOT to be an honest broker.

Their reports are less than worthless.

The Redistributors usually can't think beyond their emotions. The desire for vengeance is stronger than the desire for self betterment through hard work and education.

Try storming the Bastille or November 1917 in Russia. It sure felt good..........until they discovered they got precisely what they demanded, that is, Tyranny and a failed economic system.

The Redistributors are a silly lot. Although, it just gave me a great idea for a TV series pilot...."The Redistributors", a QM production! I'm going to get rich and then doug_s can hate me even more. doug_s will be a character in the show who plays a bomb throwing hooligan named Yust Nuts, while having a secret love affair with a weird politico named Kennis Dusinoch.

I will play the part of President Raymond Rongun, who supply sides everyone to fortune. Vice President John Galt will give a Three Stooges finger bonk to all the insane Tinglers until they awaken from their drunken stupor.

You claimed that the poor in America are getting poorer. The evidence you provided has been soundly shown to be dishonest.

Exactly! And Doug hasn't been able to concede that point yet even though the article he cites refutes it when you actually look at the supporting data. That's dishonest.

Doug is now trying to move past the 83% being virtually the same as 51%, "it just depends on the source you use" crap. My only point is that it's Doug's source that made the 83% CLAIM, while it's underlying data shows 51%. That's dishonest.

Doug's source is dishonest. He clings to the conclusions of a dishonest source even when it's been clearly exposed that the source is dishonest. That's dishonest.

Of course Doug would rather just keep moving on to the next claim, and the next, never being willing to address the dishonesty of his claims.

Doug has a big problem with his ideology. There's no question that the rich have most of the wealth. It's stupid to argue otherwise. Having wealth pretty much is the definition of wealthy. All that can be done in Doug's ideology is to confiscate wealth from those that have earned it, and give it to those who don't deserve it. The problem is that those that have it given to them don't know how to deal with it and they will destroy themselves with wealth and loose the wealth to boot. Those that created the wealth will create wealth again, unless you are just going to take it again, in which case all you accomplish is to destroy wealth.

Destroying wealth is what happens under Socialism and Communism. I'm not sure which one Doug is. Personally I'm a Capitalist.

I wonder if Doug can honestly answer what he is? I seriously doubt it. That makes Doug not worth my time. Now that my work season has started up again my time is far to short to waste on anyone who can't hold a reasonably honest conversation.

The term "redistributive justice" to me conjures up images of land redistribution in Zimbabwe and nationalization of oil refineries in Venezuela.

Are you guys equating U.S. domestic policies with these examples of government expropriations? Seems a bit harsh to me.

Is there a more apt phrase to use than "redistributive justice?"

Rocco,

Don't mistake President Bush (W) for a Conservative. It was most certainly NOT all right for him to have played the redistribution game either. Obama has taken it up an order of magnitude. He will make you poorer, not richer, in the long run.

Who is spreading hate and fear? Common Sense and Conservatism is the only way out of this mess. That is not hate and fear.

If that were going on today, yes I would be equally disturbed by that. To the best of my knowledge it isn't though, so it's a hypothetical situation. The closest thing to what you describe would be the Spanish Inquisition. It was wrong then to claim that was being done in the name of God. Ironically it was a response to Islamic conquest however.

Now what OTHER questions have you been asking me that I refuse to answer? I think this is the first dialog we have ever had.
