Never have I had such problems with changing batteries. Jap bikes its a 1 min swap. How do you get the metal band off/or loose enough to swap batteries? Ive loosened the one nut but cant take it off due to clearance problems. Any help is appreciated. Mike | ||

Not sure on an M2 but on my S3 I had to remove the rear bodywork to get enough clearance. Remove seat, remove screws that hold bodywork to frame, remove gas tank hold-down bolt, lift off tail section. Maybe a 10 minute job the first time you do it. | ||

I can change an M2 battery in about 4 min. Loosen strap nut, remove strap, loosen an remove neg then positive. tilt forward, up and out. Maybe a RTFM applies here? | ||

You loosen the nut at the joint between the strap upright and the top piece. The bottom of the upright has a hook. Push down, and unhook it. This is, of course, assuming you've removed the rear bodywork as noted above - remove seat, remove 2 (or is it 4?) torx screws that hold the body to the frame, loosen the 13mm bolt that holds down the tank, lift the tank off the tail section and remove the tail. You may have to unplug the lighting harness, but it's easy to get to. Use star washers on reassembly, if they're not on there already. DAMHIK. | ||

It is a pain in the arse on the 2002 unless you remove the tail section, which requires you loosen the base of the tank where it reaches the seat... | ||

Have you removed the frame heat shield? If not, remove it and pulling the battery will be a cinch. You can replace the heat shield if you want but I left mine off and can remove the battery in minutes. I don't remove the tail section. I use a long extension on a 1/4" drive socket to get to the strap nut. It's a bit of a pain because you don't have a lot of room to work with the tail section in place but it's not too bad and can be done pretty quickly after you've done it a couple of times. Removing and replacing the tail section would take longer. | ||
