I use amsoil in all of my motorized vehicles, so far 75k on my dodge ram and 50k on our jeep. I change my oil every 20k wether it needs it or not. To thus date I have had zero issues with the products. It in fact is cheaper than conventional oils by the years end.

Gearhead-
I'm curious about why they would recommend changing oil at the start of the season. I've always believed in changing mine at the end so the corrosive contaminants don't sit in there all winter.

I usually change mine once a year no matter the mileage. I was surprised on my Trailblazer when I was watching the 'oil life' indicator get to 10%. When I checked my log I saw that I was over 10,000mi. and 1yr.+ 2wks. I've been using either Rotella T syn or Mobile 1 in it. But the computer doesn't know what type of oil is in it.

The Benz's computer can be set for the type of oil used.

First to links do not pertain to 08 to present. The third talks of a car that was hammered on with there kids in the car during its first oil change. The third is a guy that complains of a guy that wants a new engine and hes doing track days and beating on the car. Like I said I've met several guys that have everthing from stock to Time Attack cars. One guy even used to tune for Cobb. They just don't care for the oil in there Turbo cars. Being that I heard from a Amsoil rep. helped me make my decision. I don't think Amsoil or any oil company is going to say don't run our oil in any certain type or make of car. I made a statement that Subies don't like it.... mine doesn't. I know of several that don't either.

Neat idea, but Mercedes Benz's oil monitoring system has cost them tens of millions of dollars in lawsuits over destroyed engines..

Bads1- I'd just like to be provided with information (or even a reasonable theory) explaining why Amsoil "goes right through" Subarus. I have not been able to find a single bit of information online about Subarus having an issue with Amsoil, but I have found ample evidence of Subarus having issues with burning oil- regardless of manufacturer.

I would welcome any evidence that proves Amsoil and Subarus "don't mix', but I have not found any. If you, or any of your Subie enthusiasts want to undertake a scientifically-based study/test of Amsoil vs other oils in your Subarus, I will gladly reimburse the cost of any Amsoil used in the test if it can be proven it is the only oil with an issue in Subarus. Just let me know if you're interested...

Yeah, the darn thing doesn't even have a dipstick. I was going to buy one since I just don't trust the electronic gauge.

Mike,
John, my AMSOIL guy, wanted me to chenge at the beginning of the season so the oil would go into service right away.
I also change in the fall for the same reason you mentioned.

Looks like the Subaru owner here doesn't want facts, just perpetuate some insane internet rumor about Amsoil.

I would make substantial wager this Subaru v. Amsoil is complete BS.

I've got a '09 VW TDI Sportwagen. 10k changes with the stock synth oil...regular sched. service on TDI's. I'm looking forward to the days when VW quits doing it for me, and I choose my own. ( we'll see who makes a proper rated oil then ) The stock (synth) oil was still decent ( to smell and feel tests ) when changed, but I'd bet cash that cheap dino oil wouldn't.

I run any good synth in my Cyclone's engine. Pickier about the primary oil. No dino, period.

I've run synth oil in all my cars, most bikes ( not the 2 stroke, I was poor back then ) and diesel tractor for all of this and near a quarter of the last century. I may have wasted a few dollars, but it's not my engines that fail.

Amsoil "Should" be fine for 25k miles, if it wasn't for water, dirt etc. that contaminates it. Oil filter changes ( 7-10k IMHO) are a must for normal or severe service, the Volvo nuts have been doing it for years. Some run Amsoil 20k and then pass it on to lawnmowers, junker cars, etc.

I've also been curious about changing the oil in the Fall before storage and then again in the Spring before use. Not questioning because I don't know for sure, but how does quality oil go bad sitting in a crankcase over the winter?

I've always felt that it was a ploy to sell more oil.

My next-door neighbor commuted 120mi. each way. He used M1 in his Escort (4-cyl) and had a 15,000mi. interval (same with filter). At 250,000mi. he claimed his car didn't use oil. He planned on driving it into the ground but his 16yr.-old son shortened that plan.

Hey Bonehead I already said.... I ran it I was down a half quart before I needed to do a change. I talked to a rep just a month ago by chance. He told me hes seen problems with Turbo cars from Subaru. He also told me his kids 2007 has a bit of a problem with it. What was I to do record him to make you happy. Mine is a 09 and there zero problems with it internally. I've ran other oils without problem but found Rotella to be a very good oil. I also stated I have friends that have a WRX's and STI's that won't use it because of said issues. Two of those cars are very well built cars with many thousands in them. So really no Rumors... I only know what I experienced and what I've been told and heard. I'm not saying I don't like Amsoil.... I said I won't and can't use it. Debate for me is over.

Oh, I see you and the "rep" got it all figured out it seems. Okee-dokey.

What about all the links posted by RBJ? Any answer to those?

Obviously, its a flaw in the design of the motor/turbo, not the oil. But go ahead and keep believing it's the Amsoil.

What you are claiming has to be one of the most stupid things I have read on Badweb in a long time.

I am sure everyone knows who the "bonehead" is here.

RedBuell-

You piqued my interest on your comment about the oil monitoring issue so I ran a search of Mercedes engine failures.

I only got 21 hits and most were about racing engines. Could you enlighten me a little more?

Interesting, thanks. I only entered 'Mercedes oil
monitoring' for the search.

I see that people were using dino oil and going the full length. On mine you have to enter the type of oil that you use and supposedly it changes the interval accordingly. Since it reccomends M1 that's what I'll use.

I also learned about the fleece filter, that explains why it is so expensive (plus the long plastic cartridge). I also finally figured out through the FSS to get an actual oil amount reading by playing with the procedure. I have a manual but it isn't real clear on some of those steps.

I knew when I bought that darn thing that we'd probably really like it. I just hope it lasts awhile since it's an '03 and only has 58,000mi..

I have an '07 Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD which has the Mercedes 3.0 V-6 Turbodiesel (thank you DaimlerChrysler), and just got my oil analysis result from Blackstone. I ran Amsoil 5W-40 European Car Formula (meets MB229.3 & MB229.5 oil specs) for 10,040 miles/8 months and the result was good. The oil tested better than their average result for synthetic oils in that engine at the 7,500 mile interval. The only result that was higher than normal was iron (a break-in by product), and that's because this engine has seen very light use and is still breaking in at 24,500 miles. I am quite pleased with the results.
