Erik Buell and a rocking jamming band of musicians will be playing locally at one of SoCA's best spots to ride-in and dine. Newcomb's Ranch was nearly burned in our wildfires last year but for a few dedicated employees who refused the evacuation order, staying to keep the water on the hot spots and dealing with the ash fall.

From a note when I emailed Erik (asking if this was the Thunderbolts):

quote:

"Not the Thunderbolts, but... It's going to be kind of a jam of motorcycle music people, and it should be a hoot. Me, Stoney, Brian,Rikki and more surprise guests. We'll do a couple songs off Anthem if I can convince them! Different folks on the stage at different times. And raising money for a good cause.

While this event is being promoted by Pro Italia (and by the way, you will see some CONCOURS RESTORATIONS of some classic Ducati at this event), it is a great venue, superb riding and a few HUNDRED of us regular locals really want to see Newcomb's Ranch stay alive. Unfortunately for them, some of the feeder routes from the LA side of the mountains will remain closed for some time yet but you can get route recommendations from their website home page: http://www.newcombsranch.com

HOPE to see many of our locals there - and if you EVER wanted an excuse for a trip to CA in the Summer, this might be it. If you're flying out, PM me, we can help you with transport - possibly lining up a loaner bike.

He is playing Sunday 22nd (click on the link, it's buried down in the events schedule)

Al is organizing a ride from Sandy Eggo on the Meetup SCAB board.

We're riding down from the Antelope Valley.

Nearest lodging is in the Palmdale/Lancaster area. Other side of the hill, you might ask Ozzie. Newcomb's is smack in the middle of the mountains. You could overnight in Wrightwood - cute little sub-alpine town (but a little pricey but this is NOT the ski season and times are tight)

http://www.newcombsranch.com has road recommendations. The moderator on Newcomb's Ranch facebook page is pretty responsive to questions.

If anyone needs some dirt cheap lodging, I have a whole lot of tile floor and tons of desert outside, LOL : ) I live in Phelan, (@ the 2 on the way up to Wrightwood).

This world is so tiny!!!

OK--bear with me...Brian Nutter---guitarist for Keith Urban's road band, right?
Buddy of mine (since we were little lads), started building boutique guitar effects pedals out of his basement. His business has grown to the point where he sells a lot of these things all over the world now....retro-sonic.com. Brian Nutter is one of his customers. If anyone goes to this event...have a look at what he's got on his pedal board!!! Should see some "retro-sonic" effects pedals on there!!

hmm..if retro-sonic suddenly gets an inquiry from a Mike Stone or an Erik Buell, we'll know where that came from!!!!

(hopefully no one sees this as a shameless plug for some little business....I mean, this is essentially a motorcycle site, right? : ) )

Steve-
Thanks for telling us about this event.
I got to meet Erik, which I figured I'd never get to living in California.
Cool bike show, cool ride up and Erik signed my bike too.
What a great day!!!

There will be a gazillion pics, movies, experiences from this event.

It was interesting to hear Erik telling that he was PAID for this gig - AS A MUSICIAN. He had NO agenda beyond supporting Newcomb's Ranch surviving since the fires - by playing with Mike, Rikki and Brian.

There ARE MANY stories that will come out of the day's events.

It's great to personally thank the man responsible for creating the best bike I've ever owned.

Thanks again Eric, '06 Ulysses best bike ever!
