When she was pregnant, she told me that she had no interest in being on the back of a bike, WHATSOEVER! Now, after taking her for a couple rides on the back of her mom's HD, she says I should get a bike that she would be comfortable on. Something to take up to the Dells and go camping with. I say, "but honey, whats wrong with the Firebolt?". Spite the spartan passenger accommodations, she tried. No way. Didn't make it 3 miles.
This means that the Buell is probably going to go to market soon. If I had the money, I would get another bike, but it's just not in the cards right now. I'm thinking maybe a used Triumph or BMW sport touring unit, unless someone wants to trade me a Uly..........
I just hate having to sell the greatest bike I have ever owned, but I do want to take her with when I go places. I want to stick with Buell, but HD is not being nice about parts. Seeing as the bolt is the only vehicle I have right now, being without transportation and not able to get parts would suck. Dunno. What to do.....what to do......

Find somewhere you can trade for a used XT. I am not sure about the wait for parts for Triumph or BMW. It may not be much better than Buell for some things. Be prepared to take a beating on your Firebolt no matter what.

Want a little bit of TRUTH?

Doesn't matter WHAT you ride, what matters is THAT you ride.

Sounds like you are already making the right decisions.

Try to adapt a Uly seat tail section? Biggest back seat and you keep the machine your used to.

The truth...He loves his woman deeply and will do what it takes to keep her with him. He is now analyzing the future with problems that may exist. He is willing to sacrifice his happiness for the true love of his life. Living for someone else is great but dont forget yourself. Live long and prosper

Triumph can be frustrating with parts too. I just waited around 15 days for a shifter rod that wasn't in the US. I was lucky enough that it was on the boat over when I ordered it. Still better than being told a part is obsolete.

Agreed! If I don't ride, I get a bit loony for some reason.

Lets not get carried away here. It's not like I'm losing touch with reality. She didn't tell me to sell the Buell. She simply told me she wants to go riding with me, and I'm waaaay cool with that. Now if I could just get her to get her own bike (refer to girls on bikes thread).

My experience is that most ladies who like to ride as passengers, really like the idea of having their own bikes. Getting a Blast for your lady may be the optimum solution.

Lets be honest, a Firebolt isn't meant to be a cross country perch for a passenger who isn't a very skinny contortionist.

Even my Cyclone is limited by the unfortunate fact that I am too heavy to let me carry large passengers. I can't afford a big cruiser right now, myself, and that limits my options.

But I'd try to keep the Buell if I could.

Why not look at an S3? You can get older, carb'ed ones, or newer FI models. Corbin Gunfighter/Lady 2-up seat; saddlebags for touring. You might even come out ahead on the deal, cash-wise, since there are some nice ones available out there for good prices. A Uly would work, too, as your other touring option in Buellworld.
Good sport touring bikes can be spendy, and I would agree that you might only get a small part of the cost for one by selling the 'bolt. Grrrrrrrr (I know).

Just sayin, if she liked a Harley, try staying with a Buell. Tube-framed Buells are great, and very good value right now.

I have a skinny contortionist girl and while she can go for a good stint on my CR, it's hardly "comfortable" for either of us.

I also have an S3T and she and I much prefer when two up (and I also like riding it more than my CR just about everywhere but the track). You can find something like that for around $3500 if you're patient. Very comfortable bike.

Sad truth is your 'Bolt might be worth $3500-4000 on a good day. So you could sell the 'Bolt and spend $7k on an okay used sport tourer, or just buy an S3 and have two bikes for the same money.

There's an advantage to Buell's having almost no resale value, lol.

Let's be real... The passenger seat on any real sport/racer is there to satisfy the DOT that it is something other than a for track only machine. They pretty much all suck for the passenger.

Also, "I want to ride" and "I will ride" can be different answers... so you might want to spend some time validating the second question before switching bikes based solely on the first.

That being said, same reason I sold the 9sx and bought the Uly. And I'm loving the Uly, even when riding alone.

Very sad truth indeed. I think I'm going to find a part time job to help myself out. I really DONT want to sell the Bolt. I just worry that if something major goes wrong, that it will take weeeeks to fix, because I can't get a simple part. If I can up my income, I can get another bike for the gal and I in a few weeks.......maybe sell the Bolt, stash the cash, and see what eeebbbrrr comes out with next year.
Live with a cheap POS for now, and get the next bike of my dreams when it becomes available...........
I can see why someone would cry while trying to sell one of these.
"Extension of the rider".........and they're not kidding.

This is just my opinion. Do whatever your marriage can handle but I'd keep the Buell, get something else either for her or for the both of you. Selling your bike is like selling your personal recliner because it doesn't fit right to her when you are at work and she wants to sit in it.

I got lucky with my wife...she has her own Scg.

It's NOT going to market. My brother just handed me down a car, and theres cheap used metric cruisers everywhere. Things just seem to work out (usually)............

Dude... Uly up... if I were tall enough, that is what I would do... then you can do some off-roading up in North Wisconsin when you are not with your sweetie... it would cost just as much if you got a Beemer...

BTW, speaking of Beemers, a friend of mine is selling an older 1100 RR (I think)... got the hard bags and nice windshield and is in great running order... his name is Rich Bogdanow...

if you go to my Facebook Page click on the friend link and send him an e-mail... he is out in the Rockies riding but he will get back to you... or I can pass on your phone number to him...
