due to the job not going right along with other factors, got laid off again. which is all right, they weren't that organized anyhow. the guys that stayed are doing nothing but bitching as to how screwed up things are there. so it's one less thing for me to worry about. although i have to worry about getting back to work. don't like being unemployed. will go anywhere. worked with autocad 2011,autocad 3-D,some microstation and Bentley Autoplant 3-D. if i had any pds/pdms training, it would definitely be easier to get a job but never had that opportunity. if anyone has any leads, it would be appreciated. already been submitted for a couple jobs and shooting out resumes on indeed, roadtechs and who ever else so i ain't wasting anytime. sometimes word of mouth works better though. | ||

You've got plenty of marketable skills but the market is pretty cool right now. Texas may be the one exception. | ||

most texas job are with pds unfortunately. looking at getting transcripts from college a long time ago and increase my education a little. got to many years to work and i don't want to go back to being a carpenter again. what kind of contracting do you do john. | ||

Hey Neil, have you checked on any TVA stuff? Rumors are really strong about Bellafonte Nuclear Plant in Alabama. The big players are Bechtel Power, Day & Zimmerman, and Williams. | ||

i'd love to able to get on with tva somewhere steve. my brother has worked numerous times over the years for them at browns ferry mostly. i've already checked out D&Z but haven't the other's. never heard of rigzone, but i'll take a look there also, thanks on that scott. and what do you mean by "oil patch is ALWAYS ON" slaughter. | ||

Check the following, I've applied to several in this region but can't even get noticed because I don't have piping or plumbing and because my AutoCAD experience is over 10 years out of date and I don't have current active experience on any of the AutoCAD add-ons or 3rd Party applications. I've been pinged once so far by a company I submitted a resume to. Still waiting on that one. I'm about dead in the water with my searching, but I keep trying. Current job ends in two Fridays and then I'll be looking for anything. Never give up, with your being current with AutoCAD, something should show up soon for you (especially if you're willing to move closer to a job). | ||

thanks mike, just checked those out. milwaukee really didn't have to much. had to have solid works background though. always going to indeed, roadtechs.com,ce weekly,monster and whatever else will pop up. although some people use bentley autoplant, most places use pds software. if you get a chance to train on that, you'll stay working forever it seems like. good luck to you too on finding another job. if i come across anything out there, i'll be sure to shoot ya a pm. | ||

Our Fort Worth sister company always has trouble finding entry level designers because they ALL get snapped up by the oil industry. Yeah, the business might not be all that popular right now but we ALL demand power and that means oil, steam, fluids of all sorts. | ||

so maybe check the fortworth office to see what they might have there then slaughter? if i was able to get some pds experience, i would pretty much go anywhere i had to to get it. being in the piping design business is where i've wanted to be since 1980 when i got to spend some time with my brother when he was working on the nuke plant up in midland MI. and although this is where i want to be, i'll do anything i have to to stay a designer. | ||

Where's Dr.CAD when you need him, probably off finishing his house on the hill in Arizona. He's posted a few layouts and designs on the site here in the past. I should have gotten into the building/architectural/civil business years ago. Okay, I've learned that "BIM" is Building Information Modeling relative to using the AutoDESK Revit software package. And I think PDS might be Plant Design System. I think I'll wander down to a local AutoDESK reseller and see what I can learn. | ||

imho, stay away from architectural, unless you become an architect. i would do anything to be able to get pds training and especially spend my own dime to get it, so if you can get the chance, take it. worley parsons has one position that would fit me but i don't want to make a permanent move to montana. i would stay there as long as they wanted me to though. i would be willing to make a permanent move to chattanooga but not montana. | ||

I have almost the same experience as you do. Some autodesk inventor and solidworks experience but not much. Right now I'm a truss designer in a truss plant and the building industry is pretty slow. I once had an opportunity to work for exxon mobil in Billings MT as a pipeline designer there. They also have a plant in Denver, CO. The firm is called Jacobs Engineering. Hope your job search gets some leads at least in the economy. I believe you'll find something. With persistence and your experience something should show up. |
