Not online, but your dealer can. Call with the COMPLETE VIN. There's also a couple folks here on badweb who work at dealers, who can do it for ya. I'm sure someone will pipe up  | ||

tell me what this sounds like. I purchased an extended warranty in march. A 2 or 3 year extended plan. I cant find my paper and I honestly somehow forgot what I bought. I am considering selling the 1125r and was going to see how much warranty was left for the ad. I called the ESP hotline and they said my plan ended on december 19 2012. I said well thats interesting I purhased it in march so how did I lose 4 months of my plan. They then said that I had purchased a 5 year plan and even though I purchased it in march that it goes back to the date in service of december 2012. and that i effectively paid for a warranty for the past 2.5 years that I havent even owned the motorcycle. Does that sound jacked up to anyone who knows much about the plan? I really am pretty sure I didnt purchase a 5 year plan but thats what they insisted that I did buy. Which only made me mad to think that if I did really buy that then I am pissed that I instantly lost 2.5 years. So I then called the salesman I bought it from and he is going to look into it and call me back. sounds weird. The factory warranty ran out april 1st which is also intersting because if the warranty started in december then the original warranty is a really weird amount of time. Hopefully my salesman can clear it all up with me tomorrow. | ||

Yes it is from the in service date, not the day you buy the warranty. Someone on here with HDnet access can run your VIN, figure out your original in service date, which would answer some of the mystery here. (Message edited by froggy on June 30, 2010) | ||

that just doesnt make sense though.. So if you purchase a two year ESP a few days before your original warranty is up...you basically get no warranty? | ||

There is no 2 year ESP - that's the factory term. A "3 year" ESP is a total coverage term - 3 years from date of ORIGINAL purchase("in service date", the day the bike was first sold), NOT three years on top of factory term. In other words...one additional year. ESP is marketed/available as: 3 year 3 year with tire and wheel 4 year 4 year with tire and wheel 5 year 5 year with tire and wheel 6 year 6 year with tire and wheel 7 year 7 year with tire and wheel. Subtract 2 from each of those marketing names and you get the actual time of extension - i.e. 7 year gets you 5 additional years. (Message edited by ratbuell on June 30, 2010) | ||

ok I just found out some information. I purchased a 3 year ESP. It starts from the in service date. But it does pick up where the factory warranty left off. My original in service date was december 19 2010 and harley offers an extra 4 month warranty bonus when you buy during a winter month. Which is why the warranty finally ended in april. But because the in service date was december my 3 year esp "started" on december 19 2009 which is why it ends december 19 2012. Still kind of sounds like pure thievery but whatever. | ||

I am a little confused what is an in service date? the day the dealer unpacks the bike and puts it on the floor? if so why the heck does the warranty start on that day? and not when the customer buys it? If I went out today and bought the new (never sold but probably test ridden) 3YO rocker that my dealer has on the floor would it be without any warranty at all because it went into service 3 years ago? many companies sell prior year carryovers with FULL a warranty. I was tempted to buy an '08 kawi this summer and was told that it would still have a full factory warranty because the warranty starts counting down when the bike is first titled. | ||

In service date is the day the warranty paperwork is filled out, which 99% of the time is the day you buy the bike. There are some exceptions to this, but those are rare. | ||

And the way HD does warranties, they do include 4 months "extra" if you buy during the lean months of winter. The extended warranty company could care less (no, HD does not actually "write" the warranty, it's done out-of-house, just like Brembo brakes and Dunlop tires aren't built by Harley) about the extra 4 months and they go by the in-service date. If a bike sits untitled for three years, no warranty is started. It starts the day a customer buys it and puts in on the road - in other words, it starts the day Harley no longer owns it. |
