I am so excited about surviving the 5.5 earthquake a few minutes ago. Only rode us in the basement for 5 seconds but at home was 20 seconds says my spouse. I blame the G8 - all that evil coming together at once is too much for Mother Earth to take! | ||

Up here on the Great Canadian Shield http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Shield of granite we are not subject to much earth movement. We stepped outside into the sun to wait for those killer "aftershocks" LOL and soak up a little sunshine. (Message edited by xodot on June 23, 2010) | ||

Press release info: A 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck the Ontario-Quebec border region at about 1:41 p.m. Wednesday, sending people streaming out of office buildings. Quake Did some damage in the areas near Rochester that sit on solid rock. ( ridge road area, etc. ) My house and most others rest on Glacial loess, loose soil so no damage I've found yet. Didn't even notice as it happened, I was walking/working and always assume I'm clumsy. I fell in the shower the last "big" (5+) local quake....figured it was me, until several hours later...  | ||

Another natural disturbance hit last night as a tornado went through the next town over from us. Some minor injuries, no death lots of damage. Yes - it hit the only trailer park in the area. Now to put a frame of reference around these events, we get a tornado once every 5 to 7 years and an earthquake maybe every 10 years. To get BOTH in the same day? It's gotta be the G8 I tell ya! (LOL) | ||

Did you feel it? http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/dyfi/ USGS has this website I found after the last earthquake we had... just a bitty one from the New Madrid fault... However, Decmber 16, 1811 was one of the largest... it actually reversed the flow of the Mississippi River... But check out the site, it is pretty cool... | ||

Earthquakes of 5,5 are considered to be medium. But they also can cause damage. During 24H on Earth happens at least one earthquake of such magnitude, one can see it here https://allatra.tv/en/earthquakes. And a total number of earthquakes for today, for example, is 900! Most of them are not severe, but their number is growing every year. |
