Today was a little better. We hit the black hills twisties and did a little touristy stuff along the way. This is NWForester showing how much taller his is than the Devil's Tower.

Only 350 miles today. Again, no rain, so that is good. Three days to get home and the tires are starting to look really flat. Not sure if I'll make it on this set. May have to change along the way.

350 miles today. We arrived in Idaho Falls a few hours late, but otherwise doing well. I broke a muffler strap which was easily fixed with a coat hanger and some bailing wire. Eventually we found a hose clamp and made the fix more "semi" permanent. Bombed along US 26 and went over the Rockies. That was awesome 9605 feet. Bad news is my bike ran like crap - coughing and sputtering.
We got into Jackson Hole and decided to change out some tires at Johnson Cycles in Jackson Hole.

This dude, Hal, was awesome. He changed two tires in 30 minutes. Big hand to him.

We stopped along the way a few times to take some really scenic shots. Finally some decent scenery.

Up next is a 480 mile day to Crane, Oregon. We are going to visit the hot springs there... Stay tuned!!!

We spent last night in Crane, Oregon hot springs. Big thumbs up to NWForester for finding this little gem. It was a great place to rest weary bones.

The Portland Buell Riders arrived back in Portland today, except XBswede. He is going to his high school reunion in BFE Oregon and then joining us on Sunday.

All in all it was an outstanding trip.
In total we had 4 Buells:
One 2006 Lightning long
One 2008 Lightning scg
One 2008 1125R
One 2009 Ulysses
1 chase vehicle with trailer

5000 miles
Up to 9605 feet of elevation
12 states in 12 days
1 flat tire - on the trailer
1 flat tire - on one of the bikes
2 replaced rear tires due to wear
1 broken muffler strap - fixed with good old fashion bailing wire

We did a combined 20,000 miles with 4 bikes and had no major mechanical issues with any of them.

We dodged all of the severe weather and threaded the needle on at least 8 thunderstorms with nary a drop!!!

Had an absolute blast with stories that we will tell for a lifetime. Personally, this was a trip that I always wanted to do. I feel extremely fortunate to have a group of great people to ride with. Right now, I can't even imagine ever putting my butt back on my bike, not to mention ever having to talk to my riding partners again!!

But give me a week and I'll be back at our usual breakfast spot and ready for our Saturday morning rides.

Buell Homecoming 2010 was a blast. But I don't think I will ever do this ride again. The distance across the plain states was just too painful. Next time I'm shipping my bike east and I'll join you all on the local twisty rides in Wisconsin. When that happens I will be riding my new Erik Buell Racing/Can Am/who knows what 1190RR!

I can't wait...

It was awesome to meet you guys and have a chance to visit. Buell's have taken me to Portland a number of times and I've yet to meet anyone from Portland who wasn't enthusiastic and upbeat!

Congrats on a cool ride and thanks for the write up!

It's the McMenamins that fuels the Portland crowd, specially the Terminator Stout. They indeed, are a happy lot.

To the topic of the thread:

I was SO HAPPY to get back to Tennessee roads! For the home state of HD and Buell, Wisconsin sure has turdtastic roads! I did exactly 2000 miles and hardly ANY real curvy roads to speak of! Nothing but EXPANSION JOINT after EXPANSION JOINT. (I was in no shape early in the AM to saddle up for the scheduled rides- besides, they couldn't possibly compare to home for me...)

Enjoyed the Buell convoys to/from HC, enjoyed the UP and the Great Lakes, Mackinac bridge, enjoyed HC and all you good folks immensely, but to get GREAT Bueller roads, Appalachia is where it's at.

Didn't mean to jack the thread...

Not thread jacking. Roads from Idaho east were just a sucky commute. No need to do that again!

My ass hurts.
I don't like anyone.
I don't want to see my riding partners ever again.

OK, that's a lie. It sort of sucked when The Sweed broke off for his reunion. Then about 300 miles later NWforester hit the turn signal and headed north to WA. Passed him on the inside gave a fist bump and we were fractured again. A half hour later ThePod moved to the right lane for his exit, another set of nuckles and I was alone. For the first time in 5000 miles I didn't have anyone with me watching my back or to goof off with.

Well ridden brothers! Ride soon?
