Good shops are few and far between. Even when you do your own wrenching you need a shop on occasion.I know things are tight everywhere but I try to support my local guy whenever possible. All four bikes [small shop but has a dyno] that came in last week brought their own parts with them they had purchased on the internet.I used to own a shop but luckily before so much was available online. Without parts sales we can't expect these smaller places to stay in business.Hope thats not the case here. | ||

Well the local non dealer shop near me that did my tires told me to just order online and bring them in or have them shipped to their shop. He said that most of their customers bring in all parts. They make their money in labor and dyno time and tuning. This shop is really more of a race shop, as they do race prep, pain and body, and even have a computer frame straitening machine. Pretty cool shop, and they're really cheap to do tires, around $30 per wheel iirc, with the wheel still on the bike. | ||

Last time I went to a local guy it was for a simple tire job. I got f***ed over in the whole deal, the owner was too big a prick to make it right, so I went out and bought everything I need to do my own tires - no problems since. I support the economy by buying parts and tools. The service at so many of these places is such sh!t. | ||

I am with you Xl200r. I have a modified Harbor freight tire changer, bead breaker and ballancer so I buy tires anywhere I want to(last one was the Motorcycle Superstore in Medford OR, great service by the way, and before that it was Cyclegear here in town and before that the H-D dealer- before I knew there were so many better options than original Dunlaps). This site alerts me on what to watch out for, I have a Buell Service & Parts manual, w/ECM Spy along with a case of Amsoil and spare oil filters -I'm good to go. Next, I am going to try and see if my buddy who distributes Industrial Goodyear drive belts can get me a deal on a spare belt. Its called independance -aint it sweet.  | ||

There is an independent shop about a mile from my shop...they started out with a 2 hole garage and a storefront with a pair of pipes as the only inventory on display. Since then..they have expanded into the next building and are setting up a retail parts operation. A couple of Badwebers are in on the parts thing...they are also total control instructors. After toasting my original rear tire, I went there to see what was available..wanting to keep my money in the local community...after deciding what tires I wanted, they found that they could not provide them at a competative price...so they told me where was the best place to order them and they would install them for the same cost as if I had bought them there... They also can do repairs under the extended warranty contract I bought with the bike...not to be confused with the new bike standard warranty. I had them do the 10K service...I got the bike back cleaned and polished...(and saved 200.00 over the local "Harley" dealer)... I stop in frequently to say Hi and shoot the breeze...the funny thing is this is not a "Buell" or sportbike shop...the shop is full of everything from baggers to sportsters...a couple of guys I know drive quite a ways to have their Buells serviced there... There next step will be used bikes and used parts...When I get to where I can't corner anymore...I just might get me a used road couch from them... So I'm glad to say I know an excellent independent shop...and if anyone in the central florida area needs service, I will be glad to point you there way. |
