nice idea spidey. i hope you got your calculations right on that. i can tell you a pretty bad story about dead weight loads from an unenginered storage deck that i built from someone elses dwg. sometimes you just can't have enough bracing. just saying. |

I've never lived anywhere dry enough to need to do that.
Depending on who you ask, it's either;
very good green & eco as you're saving processing water,
or you're a selfish eco-vandal who thoughtlessly keeps precious resourses for his own selfish purpose.
I'll let you decide which you wish to be.

We have six white plastic versions of pictured barrels; $6 each, Craigslist.
Beware of "food grade" barrels in quests to be green: left-over contents in mine etch concrete! I have a white cloud on my driveway now.
"Food grade" contents may include variety of caustic/corrosive cleaners approved for cleaning food processing equipment.
Be taking 'em to a self-serve car-wash to clean & rinse interiors. |

Story of my life Jramsey: a day late and 2150 gallons short.
My cistern is gonna have to wait until I move out of town. I already consumed 80% of the back yard with a pole building and raised bed gardens. My wife wasn't crazy about the huge shelter for my junk collection but she likes the edible landscaping. |

I've seen a float valve setup that lets a certain amount of the first rainfall wash through, taking a huge amount of the rooftop contaminants (dried bird poop, roof grit, dirt, pollen, etc) out of the barrel storage and dumping it overboard. It leaves the stored water a whole lot cleaner, with less gunk in he bottom of the barrels. I don't know if I can find it again, but Google is yer frend, if yer inter'sted. |

have you thought about using those arrogation hoses with the holes in it and maybe run it in a couple places in your garden to just wet the soil. that way all you'd have to do is turn the spigot on for a couple minutes maybe. don't really know if that would serve your purpose though. |

Nice job, its on my to-do list (after reside the house, rebuild the front porch, fix the oil breather hose, etc.)
My last irrigation technique was to throw a sumbersible pump in my neighbors kiddy pool after their dogs spent the day swimming in it. The garden didn't care, and it helped some new sections of the garden make it through a 4-day "freak" June 90-degree spell.
Again, NICE WORK! |
