My buddy stopped at the HD shop in Boise yesterday and they told him that Erik is back at HD! Truth or rumor? Anybody else heard this?

Maybe the BOD fired Wandell and hired Erik.

Otherwise, I can't see it happening.

There is nothing about it on Harley's site.

if I get a report that Satan is scrapping frost off of his windshield or if I walk outside and see pig droppings on top of all the neighbors' rooftops...then, I may believe it.

If I had a $1 for every line of BS I got at a HD dealer I would be a rich man.

Well, not rich, but I could at least buy a nice set of tires.

Hmm, when I talked to him last weekend he sounded pretty happy to be free... and looking forward to something new. NOT anything about going back to HD.

He has smacked a few walls at 100+mph. Maybe he rattled something loose.

Hell yeah. I hope "new" ends up being a motorcycle made or designed by him that a person can buy without going to a Hardley dealer to do it.

Soon as I see Erik riding a bagger with tassels and buttless chaps, do-rag and leather vest, I'll believe it.

Love Spidey's "One time at Harley camp..."

This is truely odd. This morning a couple of friends from racing dirt track, told me the same thing. Erik and Harley are negotiating a deal to bring him back to the fold in a completely different capacity. They said an announcement is expected soon. Also thought I would be pleased with this "deal".

Never seen a deal yet where everyone is happy.

What would be gained by this move?

HD doesn't want to produce sport bikes.

Erik doesn't want back in bed with HD.

I don't see how this would in any way speed new Buells to the market for street use.

talking about going back to harley. like the guy i talked to today at the dealership put it, they lay you off(of course erik quit) but ask you to come back(like the rumor has just been put out) then when you refuse, they can tell unemployment that you didn't take the job back and screw you out of your unemployment(in this case erik says no and h/d says no more parts and pieces for your little bike) just my take on it if there's going to be speculation.

1. I am sure Erik signed or had a contract written up about parts.

But I believe he just bought the rest of the stock he needed for Erik Buell Racing

2. He quit, I am sure he missed out on his severance to do Erik Buell Racing, since we are speculatin an all ; ), so a little threat from H-D aint nuttin!

Funny I heard the same thing. Close to signing a deal... He will be heading the Harley Davidson Racing development team, and he will be responsible for setting up the new XR1200X to make sure it out preforms all the other XR1200Xs that it will be racing against.

Lets face facts, H.D.(spit) NEEDS Mr.Buell. Their all new sportiest sporting Sporster(snicker) ever couldn't even hang with a "97"-M2.

H.D.(spit) is going to have Erik re-invent the tubers. Classic / old school ya know, they will call it the CRXLRR1200R

reg, how could this new sportster even come close to hanging with a 97 buell m2? same power, the m2 has a shorter wheelbase & can actually handle w/o dragging stuff, and the m2 weighs >100lbs less.

Doug - I've ridden the XR, and own an S1W and an S2 (as you know). The XR, while not a race bike or a "sportbike"...is surprisingly capable.

Is it a porker? Sure.

Does it have a backbone frame? Yeppers.

Does it flex in turns? Not as much as you might think, and definitely not as much as our beloved tubers.

The powerband is good, brakes are admirable, handling (despite the noticable lack-o-lean-angle) is OK, and the styling is...well, it's HD "this is important stuff" as far as features and signature bits go.

Americanmade - ride your buddies' '93 back to back with an XR. Dare ya. Trust me - you'll be AMAZED at the difference. 1. rubber mouting. 2. EFI. 3. dual disc front end, 4 piston brakes. 4. Admirable powerband.

Did your buddies' '93 cost less? I'm sure it did. But, the XR, for what it is...is a decent bike.

Not that HD is gonna know how to market the damned thing.

As for Erik returning to HD...sounds like the new "VRod bagger" rumor to me. Every year, hear the same thing. We shall see at Homecoming.
