Just watch the payload with any of these trucks if you plan on hauling much. I know the new Rangers have a payload of only about 970 lbs. That includes passengers, fuel and cargo. |

I tried to keep the truck looking stock. Except for the turbo oil pump which is the lowest point on the truck and the intercooler, you cannot tell that it is modified until you hear the insanely loud turbo charger spool up. Most people think it's supercharged because the turbo charger spools often. 
The truck also has dual A pillar gauges for Vaccum/Boost and AFR. I have the wide band setup from PLX complete with the gauge and SMS AFR control box. This truck also comes with EFI Live, EFI Live scan tool and all cables and hardware needed to get crazy on tuning.
Basic list of modifications...
STS Performance Stage II Kit
67MM Turbocharger
Front Mounted Intercooler
Fuel Injectors
Fuel Pump *Voltage Booster*
Wiring Harness
Intake/Charge Pipes
Methanol Pump, Injectors, Tank
Electronic Boost Control *Hi/Low*
Wastegate Control Valve *ties into EBC for adjustability*
There are other things I have floating around that haven't made it onto the truck...MSD stuff, Gauges, Hard Wired Connector/Fuse box for all the gauges and added accessories, that way you don't have to tap into good factory wires 30 times to hook up all the extra crap.
KBB says in good condition witha private seller I should try and get 22k for it with around 50k miles.
I'd like to try and get 25k for it with all the mods and extras it comes with...
Additional bonus... The entire kit can be removed from the truck, retuned, reverted back to stock form within a day or so. That includes the factory tune. The only welding I'd have to do is to remove the Y-Pipe and reinstall the two mufflers that came with it. |

My dad regrets to this day getting rid of his ranger. Great "little" truck. Now we have XLT F-150 but still miss that truck. Plenty of options to, supercharging, turbo, V8 dropins. Good luck!! |

Geforce, nice truck. I have an '03 myself. I heard an STS on a truck that was at the shop one day years ago. Sweet sound. I wanted to Procharger mine with the boss' prodding but couldn't cough up that much cash at the time. His race truck was on nitrous though.

For what is sounds like you will be using this truck for, it really shouldn't matter what you get - I would look for the best deal out there among any/all options. You obviously have the knowledge and interest to keep a truck well-maintained, so any you might get would basically last for a long time. Must be great financing deals on new trucks out there right now, as well as some finds in the used market. I'd get over any specific brand fixation and go shopping for a deal.
For the record: I got a 2005 Tacoma new, but that's because I got a deal thru a client/friend.

Silverado SS was one of the sweetest rides around! Nice work! Too bad they didn't make that in a crewcab!
I have owned 2 Chevy Colorados. I bought the 2004 right when they came out and traded it for a 2008 4 years later.
Both have had the I5 engine. the 2008 had the larger 240hp version. As many have mentioned, the full size trucks get similar mileage, so it will save nothing there. I actually love the size in the garage. The Colorodo Crew will have more cab space then an extended cab full size truck for sure.
Towing capacity is the only thing that has kept me from buying a bigger boat. It tows my 16ft fiberglass boat and my covered double sled trailer without issue. I do believe the towing capacity is right around 4500lb, so a covered car trailer may be out of the question other than across town.
Others have noted that the crewcab (smallest bed) will not hold a Buell with the tailgate up. This can be done, but you need to ratchet strap the front end down. My XB12s and my XB12xt have both been in my truck with the tailgate up.
The Colorados are built in the same factory as the Hummer H3 so I will be surprised if they are around for more than another year.

I've had two Rangers and I regret having to sell them. I do have a pink slip from one (of many) trips to the gravel pit. This is from my Ranger and a 9-foot single axle trailer. Rangers kick but!!!

Trust me when I tell ya Rich that my SS is a lot of fun to drive, but I just can't keep it clean anymore like I want to. If anyone met me at homecoming last year, then they can attest to my OCD with cleanliness. Ourdee remarked..."It's out of control, your bike looks like it has 30 miles on it, and the ODO reads almost 8k."
I just want a truck to beat up for work and weekend that doesn't beak my heart when I get the shiny black paint muddy. |
