Fellow Bikers,

I'm touring with a Buell XB12X 2008 from Quebec to the American Rockies. The trip was fantastic so far. It's memorial day weekend, and my drive belt broke. Any help will be much appreciated.

Red, if that is a belt from an R, it won't fit. It needs to be from either a Uly or a lightning long. If you don't have one, I have one I can send. I'll call you (jetbuilder) later to see what we are going to do.

I just saw this was posted in another thread, and Froggy has a new belt to send. My belt is used with unknown mileage, so I'd suggest going with Froggy. If for some reason that doesn't work, send me an email and I'll FedEx one of mine out.

Jeff "Badbuell08"

if you find a belt, my buddy will ride to go and get it.

Jetbuilder and Jim,

My bike is an XB12X model.

great offer, but you're quite far, aren't you? I'll keep it as an option if everything else fails.

So far Memorial Day is what delays me from knowing where and how this snag will evolve.

You are 150 miles from an excellent Buell dealer:

High Country HD&B
3761 Monarch Street
Erie, CO 80516-9455
(303) 833-6777

(located right off I-25)

That is where Zac works and there's a high probability they might have a belt in stock.

Now, getting there to pick up the belt might involve some inventiveness.

Unfortunately they are closed today and Zac is on a three day weekend so he will not be back to work until Wed I think.

Zac does not have a spare belt (called him yesterday) but like Doerman suggested I recommend you call High Country HD tomorrow morning. These guys are great.

Is there a place where you can rent a U Haul and trailer it down to HCHD?

If you get frustrated with parts then talk to Dave or Bones in sales. (Dave has two Ulys)

HCHD is off exit 235 off of Interstate 25.

Doerman, F_skinner,

I will call the dealer on Tuesday. Will the dealers be closed on Tuesday, in order to make the weekend 3 days? I hope not!

My riding buddy is still here with his bike, ready to drive wherever to get me a belt.

Thanks,

Marc

They will be open on Tuesday....

When you talk to parts and IF they do not have a belt in stock please ask to talk to Dave in sales (if Dave is not there talk to Bones).... Also tell him that Frank Skinner put you up to it and that I will owe him big time...

If those two options do not work, call me at work 7195547256 tomorrow (leave a message if I do not answer). I think my friend (Uly rider) is out of town and I can liberate the belt off his bike.

I forgot to post back yesterday. I checked Greyhound Parcel, it would be 3 days before it would get to you.

Thanks Froggy,

This prompts me to seek other alternatives. Unfortunately, everything is closed today.

I'm optimistic that we'll find more tomorrow.

I'll call our local dealers and see if they have a belt in stock. If so, I'll go about picking it up and fed-ex'ing the belt. Do you have tools with you to swap out the belt?

I'm impressed by the amount of help from all present on this site.

Until now, I was looking at all options to get me back on the road cause I can't wait more days.

Monday I called my Quebec, Canada dealer (was opened); he put a belt on UPS. According to tracking information available, this morning at 5:40 am, the parcel left Denver, Co. Sounds like I'll get it today.

As soon as I get the belt I will advise you guys.

Thanks,

Marc

Hi guys,

My belt arrived from Quebec with UPS at 11:30 am. That's 20 hours from shipment, excellent!

I took half hour to install it. I tried to post but we lost internet in Torrington. We took off northbound to Devils Tower and are now in Rapid City for the night. Pretty good progress considering the mid-day departure.

I must say I'm impressed by the amount of offer for help and consideration from all on this site.

Thanks again to you all folks,

Marc

I had a sportster that broke it's belt.
I put sprockets and a chain on.
I have an XB12 that broke a belt, far from home.
I put sprockets and a Tsubaki SIGMA X-ring chain on it. after 18,000 additional miles, I replaced the sprockets, and put on another Tsubaki chain. I have never seen one of these SIGMA chains break. Guys are running 600 horsepower drag bikes with them.
I ride some gravel roads, and I ride far from home, and late at night. there are a lot of other problems I would rather wrestle with than a broken drive belt.
A squirt of chain lube at each gasoline stop takes me about 14 seconds... I can afford that much inconvenience.

I would like to hear more about your chain drive setup. From the pic in your profile, it looks like you basicly replaced the idler pulley with an idler sprocket and slotted the mount for adjustment.

Please elaborate.
