Hey guys and gals.

Im in a bit of a pickle.

I had plans on taking the truck to Homecoming with 2 buddies (splitting costs and what not from Dallas, TX) but they both had to change there plans and I can't find any other locals to join in....

So Im thinking I might fly up there Friday morning and spend Fri and Sat up there (rent a boring car!)

my pickle is this... I have those days off from work and they will most likely be the last few days I can get off for at minimum 4-5 months or so. I have 2 very i'll grandparents about 6 hours away (opposite direction) I've been wanting to go visit since Christmas.
Grandpa's been on his death bed for the last 2 years but going downhill very very fast and grandma is on Hospice with 2 types of cancer.
(this is why you treat your body well kids!!!)

So Im trying to figure out what to do!
I don't have the funds to make both trips.

#1 fly and rent a car for a couple days for Homecoming. (found round trip air plus car for $250)

or

#2 visit family before its too late.

I'm pretty sure im going to visit the relatives as it seems like the best choice since all my other plans fell through, but i'd like to hear some good arguments on it :-)

what would you do???

Thanks guys and gals!

Go see the sick grand parents!

My dad is going under the knife at 7:30 am for a triple bypass surgery. He is doing well now but who knows?

Those kind of things should come first, because you may never see them again and that is far worse than missing a trip!

A friend of mine died and i missed the funeral because i thought it was the next day. I MISSED IT!

I have never forgiven myself for it.

Tough call. Quite a few questions to consider. How close are you to your grandparents? Is their condition such that they will know you are there to see them? Will your parents give you the guilt trip if you go to Homecoming and not see your sick grandparents? I like to think that when I get old enough that I can't do much anymore, that I would want my younger and healthier family to live, have fun, and do things I wish I could be doing. Sorry, lots of questions, but whatever you decide will be the right decision.

visit your family! But start planning now on coming to the 2011 Homecoming next year!

With the passion motorcyclist have for their Buells, there's always going to be a homecoming! But your grandparents won't always be around.

I talk to em every couple months. Well grandma anyhow. Gramps hasn't been able to speak in a good year.

I've made 3 "emergency" trips down there in the past 2-1/2 years where they thought it was the end for him..... Nope! He's like the energizer bunny!
( atleast he smiles when I tell him that )

grams is in better shape but they say the cancers ( 2 different types ) are taking a bad toll and In march 2009 they gave her 6 months......but she's still doing okay for her shape.

I'd pretty much decided on go visiting the family, just curious on others take.

I really with WI wasn't so freaking far away!!!!!

grandparents, i'd be willing to bet that next years homecoming will be a lot more special than this years anyhow.

i never took the time to go see my grandparents like i should have and regret it. and i was a good bit closer than you were.

Hard call between doing what you want and what you should. Everyone is right though. If you were to not go see your family and something should happen you would regret something you would never have the chance to do again.

p.s I think this years Homecoming will be the shiz. What are ya trying to say Neil..huh?...huh?

Family. When my dad was sick, I worked extra shifts, painted lines on high school tracks and parking lots to scrape enough to get a plane ticket home from Oregon. Best thing I ever did. He passed away while I was home and I was there for my mom and family. Homecoming, however fun and exciting it will be will more than likely happen again, family and grandparents, only happen once.

My sis and I were talking the other day about how we missed our mom, our Pop (grandpa), and what we'd love to talk with them about that we'd never gotten to since they had died.

It's easy and tempting to run away from the pain of watching our loved ones slowly fade away- unless you ABSOLUTELY KNOW your gramma and grampa would tell you to go, go be with them.

Rest assured that LOTS of photos and second hand stories will be available after HC is over.

Peace.

+1 what Court said. Bonus Ride the bike to visit the grandparents. Camp out while you are there and see them 2 days in a row. You wont enjoy homecoming if you neglect family. I used to go visit my Grandma in the home. Sometimes I was me, other times she thought I was her son or some guy she used to know. I just went along with who ever she thought I was and had a nice visit. I wish I could have one more visit with her. Relatives would ask why I never visited her. I never explained it to them. It was a 150 mile round trip that I made on Saturdays when I knew they wouldn't be there. Just in case you didn't hear me, Go see your grandparents.

plan to see your grandparents.

Nevernuf isn't coming, so of course this years won't be anything special (to him)...other than it will kick the crap out of Homecoming's past.
Put on by Buell owners for Buell owners after H-D shut down Buell....nothing special.

I missed my Grandpa by mere hours before he died. Never forgave myself. Was in the room when my Grandma died. I'm glad I was there at the end of her life. Nothing comes before Family. Nothing.

i was so happy to finally be able to make it to one last year. and considering "the man's" nocompete clause expire next year will make next years homecoming a true event minus the fact that vamp and chili won't be there to enjoy it. besides, being outta work right now doesn't leave me much in the room for outta town expenses.

Funemployment may have ended but funwork started ten weeks ago. I am designing wireless chips that operate at 60G. Whoa!

Have a few beers or ten with all the great Bwebbers and hoist em to Rah7777777 who will reap rewards because he spread and shared love with those close to him.
