I am a hard core buell guy and cannot picture my self owning any other brand of bike, however to day I was bored so I rode to Austin and I discovered that the central Texas Harley shop that was in Austin is no longer were it used to be. Well the Ducati shop is right next door to there old location and they were doing a demo day out side so I stopped by and decided to take a spin on one of the Hypermotard bikes (actually I rode both the 1100 and the 796) and I must say if i ever by another brand of bike it will be one of those. That bike was so much fun to ride. It was like riding a dirt bike but with more power.

I also got to test ride a 1125r at central Texas Harley as well which was also fun and the first time I got to ride one of those.

Give us details of the 2 bikes. The 796 looks like a good replacement for my Sumo'd XR650,IF I ever wear it out.

well coming from buells The engine delivery of the 1100 was more to my liking and the clutch had a similar feel to it as an air cooled buell. The 796 to me had no balls to it though I did like the seating position of the 796 better than the 1100 as it is a tad bit shorter. I especially hated the clutch on the 796 but this may be due to the fact that I have ridden buells for so long I am used to there clutches. The clutch on the 796 did not seem to have a fiction zone it is either engaged or not engaged and it was really light to pull in which I guess would be good for a beginner or some one not coming from harley built engines. The handling on the both of them was really amazing it was almost like riding a bicycle they were so easy to throw around. The Brakes on the 1100 caught me by surprise at first though as i slid it stopping at the first stop light I came too.

I rode a Victory Cross Roads today. Not bad... better than I expected it to be. LOVE Victory motorcycles. I think of them as Harleys, if Harley believed in engineering...

I wouldn't mind trying one of those victory hammers out but I do not know were there is a victory dealership to actually try one. I thought it was interesting how none of the 2 motorcycle dealerships I went to today did not try to hassle me in to a bike they just said hey give me your license so I can make a copy and you can take it for a spin.

I used to have a Hammer. Handles terribly. I compare everything I ride to a Buell as nothing has those Buell handling characteristics. I did have a Yamaha Warrior. That bike could handle for a large cruiser.

I went for a spin on a little Street Triple today. Yesterday, I rode a Monster 696. Both fun bikes. My wife isn't keen on the Sporty, so I'm looking for a replacement for her. The Sporty, not my wife.

I think I liked the sound and feel of the little Monster a bit more. It sounded cool, looked nice and the power delivery reminded me of my City. It just felt more familiar.

The triple was a hoot too, but sounded like a sewing machine whistling away. I did like the Triumph instruments better. Might look at doing something different for myself on down the road too. I dunno, so many great bikes out there. The Triples, those crazy Streetfighters...drool. The Super Dukes.

We'll see.

The humoungous fat tire on the Hammer (and the Jackpot) pretty much limit those bikes to straight lines. Perfect "Florida" bikes, but not if you like taking curves.

Try the ones with "normal" tires. They handle a LOT better.

My local Duc dealer did demos saturday as well. I wasn't in line quick enough for the 796 hypo, but did demo the 696 monster. Nice bike, well mannered, lacking the power of an XB9, but still plenty fast.

Iman I am with you on liking the hypermoto better than the the superbikes and such. Don't get me wrong I would never throw one out of my garage or anything but The hypermotard just seems to fit my personality better than the others. After that I would have to say that street fighter or a monster would be above the superbikes in my list as well.

Weekend befor last, the local BMW dealer let me take a new 1000RR from Saturday night and return Monday morning. That is an amazing bike! It was in break in and rev limited to 9K instead of the 14.5K red line, but I still saw the high side of 120. I put over 200 miles on it from freeway to twisties, loved the eshifter, never was fast enough to engage the traction control or ABS. The brakes make the ones on my S3 seem, like something on a Harley, huge deacceleration slowing me much quicker from my usual breaking points not even approaching ABS engagement. More than one time I heard me saying WOW in my helmet.
