>>>>Is that Erik on vocals?

Yes, for the most part. Mike Stone makes some appearances as well. Details may be in the liner notes, if not I can send them to you if you want.

Got mine yesterday. Went over to a buddy's last night for our weekly listening session out in his garage, where we'll check out things we've come across; new, old, 78's, 8-Tracks, whatever. Last night, Tim had a killer Albert Collins recording I've never heard, and a dead mint vinyl copy of the first Mott the Hoople album. I showed up with the new Slash disc, and Anthem......

Good job, Mr Buell. Anthem is a stark, unpretentious, blue collar rock and roll record. I like that, because some of my favorite albums; The first MC5 album, The Stooges "Raw Power", Blue Oyster Cult's "Tyranny and Mutation", they all fit in that category, as I see it, anyway.

Any guitar player who pursues guitar tones like the ones on "Anthem" has my attention. They are raw without being abrasive, unadorned and unapologetic. Erik is a better player than I thought he might be, and uses those tones to his advantage. The band is tight, without being too stiff or "click trackish", and they were able to capture a excellent live band feel.

I enjoyed the songs; a nice cross section of American rock and roll influence, from funky Hendrix augmented 9th chords, easy sippin' southern melodies, some totally greasy, heartburn inducing southwestern thangs, and in your face rockers.

Erik's lyrics are interesting, bringing his personal experience into his songs in a matter of fact way; as focused as the architecture and execution of the musical side of the songs. Everything holds tight to the core each song. (Mass Centralization?)

I give cudos to anyone with the stones to get up and sing in front of people. Erik comes up with some great vocal tones in the same way that some of my favorite singers (Neil Young, Tom Petty, Nick Cave) do; use what you have, and mean it. It would be really interesting to hear what Erik would sound like after work hardening his voice in a full time band situation....

...if it weren't for those damn motorsickles!

Bullseye Mr. Kowalski.

You captured what I could not express. I'd like to add one more thing.
It endures. I have listened to the entire album several times and I am not getting tired of any of the songs. I discover new things every time.

There's a hazard to that, the involuntary humming of Anthem in places and situations you did not intend to.

It's a good thing, methinks.

Rich:

Well said. I shared that, and your name, with the produced. You summed it up well. I'm really enjoying this.

I'd wager the Albert Collins was awesome as well.

I'm glad someone recognized one of my artistic touches. I was also really pleased with the lucky find of the clip with the people from "Sons of Anarchy" sitting around in the dealer revving their bikes and going nowhere for the line: "Sit in a chair ain't worth nothing"

And keep in mind what kind of bike Evil Knievel was riding when he got his "broken bones" in the Ceaser's clip.

Though I should clarify that I didn't mean anything against Paul James toward the end . . . I was just getting lazy by that point.
