Thats F-ing brutal what the hell is that p.o.s cop thinking? how are you gonna shoot a guy in the back? Is he one of those douche bag cops that thinks all bikers are doing something illegal? I love how some cops hid behind the excuse "I thought he had a gun" really? at what point did he pull a gun it looked like he was just turning around. Also for what its worth how are you gonna tell a guy you just SHOT in the back the put his hands up. if the bullet in his back wasn't enough he had a 700lbs bike on him. So it must have been like this " BANG!!! Crunch (bike falls) Ok I know you just got shot and your bleeding out in the street also your bike is laying on your newly parallelized legs giving you 3rd degree burns but do you mind putting your hands up because I would hate for you to try to run Oh wait your parallelized because i shot you, My bad"

He shot an unarmed man on a motorcycle in the BACK, and is facing 11 years! Give me a break, If I was to have an intruder in my house, and i was to shoot him in the back I WOULD be facing LIFE in prison.
He should spend the rest of his life behind bars with the very people he put there.
I wish nothing but a life in hell for him and his family!

The cop should have used better judgment, but what do you expect? Your in the USA. Everybody is armed, everybody knows it. Everybody is running around scared expecting somebody else to pull a gun. The cop is involved in a brief chase, one guy goes off the road and the cop's adrenalin is running high. In the heat of the moment I bet he thought he was doing the right thing. The cop is an idiot obviously but this sort of things happens in the US everyday. Do you think the guy that got shot has enough insurance to take care of his disability for the rest of his life?

What a crock! I have lived in america my whole life and never have had the fear that someone is going to shoot me! SO what if his addrenalin was up? That is no excuse for shooting a guy in the back!! He is supposed to be a trained Police officer! Shame on you for excusing this beehavior! And I sure don't believe cops go around shooting people for No Reason, on a Regular Basis! Your views are Screwed!

Where do you get the "Everyone is armed therefore is likely to get shot" statistics that you base your post on? Do you get American ABC broadcasts or is this strictly higher learning from the Canadian media?

Sorry if my assumption that you reside in Canada (based on your tag-name "Toronto") is incorrect. I understand that there is every chance that you are living in the USA in order to take advantage of the higher pay scales that can be attributed to our non public health care system.
Oh wait... we elected B. Obama... in a few years we will all be in the same socialist utopia

Your friend got a raw deal but he made some mistakes and unfortunately they were just enough to make the cop scared for his life.

When an officer runs my plate he assumes Iam armed so when he pulls me over my hands are visible on top of the wheel. No quick movements to get my wallet or anything like that. Several other circumstances didnt help your friend but I had trouble seeing his right hand. If Iam a nervous cop at night pulling over two guys that just left in a hurry thats bad.

Bad situation for everyone. I wonder what whats his hame would say about it.

Because your concealed carry permit is attached to your DMV records and the office is "notified" when your record is pulled up.

That's simply WRONG. that cop should fry for that stunt. Looks to me like he was looking for someone to shoot. Not much different than a gang banger trying to get into a gang. That's my take.

Cyclonemick.

I never said the cop was justified. But you hear all kinds of news reports of kids getting shot by cops with toy guns in their hands, or getting shot by cops while reaching into their glove compartments after being pulled over. American cops are scared for their lives. Lets face it, cops in the US have a justified fear of getting shot because of the preponderance of guns in the States. In the United States 80 people die everyday because of guns. Just look at how many BadWebbers carry guns and own guns, you guys are proud of the fact. How many times has Court been shot at?

We had a young man shot and killed in Cincinnati about 10 years ago running from the police as he was fidgeting with his pants. Stuff like that gets you shot especially when you have warrants.

To kind of get back to the subject:
As a legally armed citizen, I would have a tough time justifying this shooting (and with the video, am sure to be charged and do time). My guess is this was an "accidental discharge" caused by the common mistakes of putting your trigger finger inside the trigger guard before intending to discharge the weapon. Probably should have came clean about the really bad mistake rather than trying to justify the shooting.

Toronto_s3 that comment is out of line.

Canadian cops have been known to do the same thing. Remember Dudly Laws? Thats just off the top of my head but I know there have been others.

Plain and simple the cop screwed up and should pay. There is no excuse for that.

I know the numbers are startling. An even bigger problem is the number of deaths because of cars. Its an epidemic.

That's messed up on the cops part. Even IF the biker DID have a gun,it would have been very difficult for the biker to shoot at the cop behind him at what looks to be over a 200 degree swing of the gun hand. Plenty of time for the cop to go on defense and shoot, when a gun in the bikers hand was a clear threat.

a sad tragedy, for your friend, who may never walk again, and for a cop, who probably will lose his freedom/ livelyhood. I hope one of the lessons here is dont run from the police. Only bad things happen when you do, and now two peoples and their families will be forever changed.

my apologies to Dudley Laws I meant Dudley George.

I've spent a lot of time in the USA over the last few years and I can tell you there isn't a lot of difference between our 2 counties. I can also assure you Toronto cops are scared when ever they pull over a "suspicious" car.

I was born and raised in Toronto. That city is no different then most American cities and has the same problems.

There are enough legal guns in Canada to arm 40% of the population. That doesn't account for the millions of illegal or "unregistered" firearms.
