Ft_bstrd, Barker, and Chadhargis- I hope you guys (and anyone else in the area of all the bad weather) are OK with all the flooding we're hearing about in the Nashville area.

We had 12-15" of rain in 36 hours. My folks house had the water rise 100 yards beyond the banks of the stream and up to the 100 year flood plain levels.

My kids were at my parents house and it took me 2 hours to go 6 miles to try to get to them.

I-65 north and south bound were under water at Cool Springs mall.

I-40 west of Nashville was under water.

I-24 east of town was under water.

Portions of Briley Parkway were under water.

Portions of I-440 were under water.

It was EPIC rain.

Hey Jeremy- I've been trying to think of all the low lands around Nashville all day yesterday and today so far- my sis had come to Nashville for the weekend from Little Rock AR- at this writing she is driving to Paducah KY on I-24 to pick up I-60 and try to make it to West Memphis, then home on I-40. She'll be driving all day and the first part of the evening to get back home. Unbelievable.

Opry Mills, Opryland Hotel, all of downtown up to 3rd street, Nolensville Road, Smyrna, all under water! Kay said the guy in Shiloh who sells wood by the highway had all his cut wood just float away! Tulip Grove closed! National Guard activated- Geez!

She had tried to drive from Mt. Juliet to Gallatin to see our grandma, got within 2 miles of downtown Gallatin and had to turn back. On the way back on 109, water was rushing over the highway- I know where the lake and recreation areas are, that HAD to be sketchy driving! She was with a friend who was driving, she was on the cel with me giving a play-by-play of the drive.

How's the Boro? Seems that Bumpus is located on a low lying piece of land, how's Tom and his crew doing?

Do tell- my sis said it was like Hurricane Katrina paid Nashville a visit... : (

Be safe, friends...

See, Kevin Costner knew what he was about.
Grow some gills & you're good to go.

It's weird weather everywhere, we had summertime temperatures last week, running round watering the plants so they don't dry out, cutting the grass with the ride-on wearing a t-shirt.
Today it's a polar top & winter jacket if you go outside. I had to turn the heating back on last night it's blowing a real cold Northeaster here.

I'm here working from Florida. We're building a parking garage for Vanderbilt University. The job site faired well, but we all seemed to forget about our concrete pump truck we have parked off site at Metro Ready Mix's back up plant along the Cumberland River. Couldn't even get to it today due to the water, we're told its under about 5' of water right now. DOH!

Sorry to hear about you guys being hit. Man that was some scary stuff, as those storms came across the plateau approaching the valley where I live, they sped up and somewhat dissipated. We only got a couple of inches of rain here.

My unfinished basement got about 7 inches of water. I used to make training videos for Servpro, so I got it sucked up and dryed out in no time. Just a few things were a total loss, including some dinosaur bones (long story) that are now a box of mud.

I have been working around town with the guard. A lot of suck. A lot of downtown is still underwater. We are alomst out of water in our public water system. Yeah ironic.

As far as I know chad got hit hard. Cars, bike, scoot and house were under water. He and his fam are safe, they got out before it got to wet.

He and his fam are safe

And that is all that really matters. The rest is "stuff" and can be replaced.

We saw enough flood waters in 1996 and 1999 with the Hurricanes that hit NC. It's scary how much damage water can do in a short amount of time.

Give our best to Chad when you see him.

Glad you were able to get your basement cleared out pretty quickly Barker.

Thanks guys.

The CR is indeed a total loss. It spent about 24 hours under water. My scooter, with it's low tech carb, no fancy electronics, and simple engine was salvaged. A friend got it started today and rode it around. He's going to clean it up and get it back to me.

My CR is in bad shape. The last sound I heard from it was the gurgling of water entering the engine through the airbox shortly before it was totally submerged. I said goodbye and waded though chest deep water with my daughter on my shoulders.

Since homeowners won't cover flooding, repairs are on my dime. No replacement motorcycle is in my future as I have to provide for the needs of my family first. I'll be back on a motorcycle someday.

RIP my Buell

Damn, Chad, sorry to hear that. Don't toss the CR yet. If the scooter was saved that easily, no reason the CR can't be saved too. I'd dry it out (soon!), dump the fuel and oil, flush everything out, put in new fuel and oil, and try to fire it up. I imagine it's salvageable if you can get the water out of the engine before it rusts up.

Good luck.

Kind of ironic, I can see the river from my front porch and we never had any issues. The Cumberland river forms a penisula around our road, which dead ends at the river. We are the lucky ones that live on the bluff side versus the flood plain. So many people beyond the 100 year flood plain just got dumped on.

The river rose so fast, 40 feet in a few hours that no one could believe what was really happening.

Chad, Matt, let me know if there is anything we can do.

Later

I would try to fire it up if not for a few things.

1) I have no place to work on it. Shop was flooded and tools are scattered, here, there, and everywhere.

2) I believe you have to rotate the engine to get to the front plug (see #1)

3) I have no time to work on it. I had to start back to work, so when I'm not working for pay, I'm working to rebuild my home. Gotta get drywall and insulation in this weekend. (if I can find any)

A friend of mine hauled my scooter off and got it running or else it would have been a loss too. I simply don't have the resources or time to take a look at the bike. I hurts me to see it sitting there when I'm sure I could dry it out. The gauge pod is FULL (and I mean completely full) of water. It will need replacing. Don't know about the ECU. The throttle cables will be full of mud and muck. It's more than just draining the engine. Bearings have to be replaced. Brake fluid flushed. Everything cleaned out. Air filter replaced. A laundry list of things.

As sad as it is, I simply can't do it all. If I had nothing else to do, I'd do my best to rescue it, but I can't leave the 99 to try to save the 1.

Chad, how about some BadWeB help? Jeremy has played in the instrument clusters, I bet he could take it apart and make it live. The ECM is gel filled. I'm thinking maybe I could pick it up to bring it back to my shop and get the immediate needs draining and oiling stuff done before rust or corrosion sets in.

Every wire connector would have to be unplugged rinsed, blown out and reconnected with dielectric grease. Wheel bearings, no problem. Cables disconnect and pressure oiled, the lights would have to come apart and be cleaned, the starter also. I bet we could even get some parts donated if needed.

We didn't get flooded here. I could come get it this weekend if it would work for you. I know insurance logistics are at work there, but the earlier it is done the better. I have done a lot of flood ravaged cars and trucks over the years, be glad to help.

I'll send you a PM with my number.

The idea of having a "Buell-athon" here on BWB to help get Chad's CR back on the road has been proposed:

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?tpc=4062&post=1810166#POST1810166

Ulywife has offered to be the fund manager - she has a bullet-proof history in this regard.

This deal would be pending Blake's approval, and, of course, predicated on Chad wanting/needing the financial help to get his Buell back on the road.

Me 'n D would be glad to donate - just say the word.

Count me in! I'm some $'s would help at this time if it works in the insurance picture. Whenever a vehicle is totaled, the owner comes out on the short side.
