Knowing nearly nothing of HD history, I never drew the parallel. Never said I was the sharpest quill on the porcupine.

The article reads like a 7th grade essay. I would not doubt that harley had something up their sleeve, but not without the help of "The Man". I would have to see one to believe it.

loose pieces inside the engine, obviously which has fallen off from its bearings.

Interesting way to say it.

Regardless of how poorly written, we see HD investing a large amount of money into something that is beginning to develop and then arbitrarily shitcan it to concentrate on touring cruisers.

Also notice the half-fairing.

Nothing going on here except that when the bike hit the track, it was already outclassed. Plain and simple. No comparison to how h/d shit on buell. Buell had a winner and more on the works.Like the Barracuda, the 1190r

My point is that no matter how outclassed the VR1000 was, it was still light years ahead of anything else they were building at the time.

Wow.... Someone hath drinketh too much h-d cool-aid!!!

The most acurate part of the article; "...but the management of HD was just happy selling the lifestyle bikes and didn’t want to scratch their heads all over."

Had they of listened to Erik back then, they would probably HAVE added to their "racing heritage".

That's the part that I was mostly referring to.

Paint_shaker your last statement is wrong.

You should have said, if H-D would have listened to the man they would HAVE added to their racing heritage with a championship and just might have started building sportbikes. I'm glad they were in to selling the image and not road racing. Because if they would have stuck to it, Buell motorcycles might not be what they are today and the future Buells might not be coming. We know Erik will listen to his customers and the Baracuda will be here before we know it.

This is the only thank you H-D will get from me...Thanks for not taking your head out of you ass.

Because the sportbikes Erik would have been building, would be to expensive to buy.

The last H-D shirt I ever bought had the VR1000 on it. Hacienda HD in Safford, AZ. 1995, I think.

Whoever wrote this surely didn't do their homework to get facts straight. Do the research and find out where the VR1000 really started.

Latest Cycle World has an article on the death of BMC which IIRC says that Erik was designing the first water--cooled US made sportbike, but HD appropriated/altered the motor for use in a cruiser-now known as the V-Rod. And, the XB-R was born, air-cooled instead of water cooled.
is that more accurate? ; ) not that CW is the best source...

Anony, yeah I didn't think the article was too well written, and figured it was creatively written, but what struck me again was the "HD was just happy selling the lifestyle bikes" part.

It was not creative, it was patently inaccurate.

Steve Anderson's article in Cycle World was the most accurate thing I have read in recent years.

It's good to hear the CW article is accurate. I thought it was believable and well written as well. Sometimes it is hard to tell what's really going on in these situations when I have no contact with anyone that has personal experience. I am REALLY looking forward to Erik's next accomplishments. When does his no-compete clause expire?

>>>When does his no-compete clause expire?

That's really of little concern or consequence. . . . don't buy into all the internet hoopla . . . watch the "big picture".

Erik is a very busy guy and he's nowhere near done.

Are the bikes in the barn still there? Or did they get seized with everything else and scraped.

I've got a feeling as soon as this no compete thing is up we will see something that we will be happy with. Whatever is in the works is being kept top secret, projects and deals. That's the way it has to be right now.

The funny part of this is Erik Buell Racing and Ducati have 4 to 1 odds of winning the advantage is in the Jap bikes favor they have over a 60% chance at coming out on top of the podium and Buell has been whooping them since last year.

Yes, whatever EB has in store for us mortals will be awesome and I can't wait to own one.

I do hope he will make a nice sport touring machine, that's the next thing I would want to buy, something like a Uly with a water cooled FI engine would be about perfect, maybe only a liter class though to keep the insurance down a bit, how much power do you really need for touring (I'm sure 100HP would be perfectly fine).
