One year ago yesterday 4/28/09, I posted a thread in the XB section titled Bad Morning describing a stop and drop at work which resulted in a broken finger. I followed that up by knocking the bike off of the kickstand (parked it in neutral) when I stopped on my way home at a store. That morning I was trying to stop smoking, cold turkey. I stopped to buy cigarettes.

The next morning I quit again. This time I left the bike home . It has now been one year since my last puff. The finger has also healed except for a ridge on my nail.

For those of you thinking about quitting, just do it. I had tried lots of times using patches, nicotine gum etc. This time was my first attempt cold turkey. I can't say I have successfully quit just yet. I smoked for 30 years so I have to not smoke for 30 to be successful.

I'm going to try to post a link to the thread from a year ago, lets see if this works.

Funny you mention. I'm on day 3. I am using the nicotine lozenges. About 4 per day at 2mg each. I am working on the behavioral aspect right now, and the lozenge is weaning me off the nicotine.

Congratulations Macdiver! I remember you making the post about that morning. Glad it's been worthwhile.

Good luck Johnny. I wish my dad would have made the effort. We lost him to lung cancer too early. I'm grateful to not have a personal understanding of what you folks go through. I certainly don't question the difficulty of it though. Hang tough!

I recently heard that the laser treatments work great. Heard it first hand from a long time smoker BTW. Another option for those that can't beat it through shear will power.

Thanks for the well wishes.

For Johnny and Woody, keep it up. It does get easier.

Anyone else out there thinking about quitting, there are plenty of options. Good luck.

Feb 11th I ended up in the hospital...I had severe bronchitis and an infection...It damn near killed me...my blood oxygen level at that point was 68%...2 weeks in the hospital...I haven't smoked since...cold turkey...keep a pack of tic tac's in my pocket...

I feel better now than I have in years...literally...smoking is insidious...the effects are so gradual, you think nothing of it...or write it off as getting old..so if you smoke....quit now...it just might add years to your life..
