Here's the scenario: The Grid is offline. There is no refrigeration. There is no electricity other than what you can generate yourself. There is no gasoline or diesel other than the dwindling supply contained in storage tanks, which will all be looted and hoarded quickly. The resources you are accustomed to, forget about them. They're gone. Government officials during the final days are confiscating firearms and ammunition. What do you do? Where do you go? Keep your descriptions vague, because you can bet all electronic media is being monitored prior to the big shut-down. Think, and discuss. | ||

Zombie are serious... However, to answer your original question. If a state of chaos is at hand, I'm going where the food is. I don't mean, canned food stores I mean wildlife. I can live off the land for the rest of my life if need be. Perhaps safety lies in the mountains where small bands of survivors can maintain the high ground and defend. There are so many possibilities I'd need more information to make a rationale battle plan. | ||

Well turn my whole back yard into a garden after raiding the Lowes down the street for seeds and fertilizer. There is a hobby farm a 1/4 mile from here with steer, cattle and other farm animals. I would barter with him for a few livestock animals to breed. Then work up a deal with my neighbors to keep the cattle, etc in their yard in exchange for veggies and meat. OR Hit up the Lowes for seeds and fert. Then use the gas left in my car to head to the in-laws who live in a semi-rural area on 10+ acres. And do the same basic thing. There is a cattle, type live stock farm a few miles away that I could do something similar... | ||

Let's just say the scenario has been mulled over. As a Marine I can tell you there are three basic needs water, food and shelter, everything else is a luxury. Also, being the Marine I am, no one will know the plan until the day it happens, but rest assured I will have access to all three needs and enough means to ensure I can keep them. Lastly, no one man can last very long by himself, so remember to keep your civility and dignity. With out Love for your fellow man we are all just animals. | ||

We have a place, about 150 wooded acres, some of it could be farmed, the rest is great hunting. It is also attached to a lake that can be fished. Plenty of dead fall wood for heat. As Stalker said, if they want my ammo, they can collect it in small groupings, I'll keep the guns though. Or... | ||

It would be hard to do with out the things we have become acustom to having, As i WAS BORN IN THE 30S AND RAISED UP JUST AFTER THE GREAT DEPRESSSION and live on a farm I know I could get by I can still plow a mule and have land to grow trees and food and hunt I will be OK I thind I may enjoy working a Donkey any way as they are the simble of the liberals I would enyoy working the hell out of them any way. | ||

Assuming I lived long enough to reach a battle axe....  I'd teach the old ways to those who wanted to live. I've been SCA for a long time and there is a survivalist faction long prepared for the End Times. Because they come again and again through history. Slaughter without mercy or remorse the reavers & evil that roam the land...I mean the Zombies. Or....join the govt. in oppressing you. That usually is a good ticket to wealth & power. Gotta have a zombie plan. Mine's secret. | ||

I'd move to someplace far from heavy population and get like 12 wives to join me and make a bunch of babies. Wives and children would have to learn farming, cleaning, cooking, self-defence, basic weapon training and setting boobytraps. | ||

I'm heading to my folk's 230 acres of farmland (bringing my guns w/ me). There we'll have more than enough to live off the land. We should be safe from invaders too because the neighbors are all crazy country bumpkins who are armed to the hilt  | ||

you just described my cabin in the woods that I used for 'vacation' No phone, No power, no plumbing, no heat, but it has a well head, a root cellar, a buried refrigerator vault and all the armament I can pack in whatever I drove to get there. It is significantly off the grid, under an assumed name, at an undisclosed location. You can bet your azz I will be there for december 2012 , just as I was december 1999. It aint paranoid, its prepositioned mitigated preparedness.  | ||
