didnt mean to piss anybody off or anything just joking around with my friend when i posted it. he was sitting with me in class and we were talking bikes he's got some little POS chinese cruiser (250cc) and said he wanted a sport bike, something like a 600 or 1k jap. i told him to get a 500 ninja or something similar. since he's a new rider. He then said i should get a sporty. well since i'm still anti-harley i told him it was a girly bike. i dont really believe it, i was just messing around with him and put up the post hoping the first couple answers would be yes just so i could be like i told you so johnny! hahaha if i had a sporty i'd ride it. a bikes a bike

Does that make XB riders gurlz???? LOL

Back when I sold 'em, to hear that comment would generally indicate ignorance and benign bigotry. Even women who in all reality would do just fine on a Sporty would try to get into a Dyna or something bigger when, most of the time, they shouldn't.

I don't care if it's Boy George's lesbian gramma's bike- if it FITS the rider, and the RIDER is comfortable both sitting on and operating the bike, then all is well.

Iman- good on ya in trying to help your buddy (A BEGINNER!) to find the right bike- just don't poison his mind with prejudices. Believe it or not, such biased thinking can lead to bad decision making down the line.

Actually, BELIEVE IT. I've seen waaay too much poor reasoning from too many people who plan to get on a motorcycle for the first time. I always considered it very important to try to steer folks in the right direction as regarding the "right bike".

Good luck- and for the record, ALL bikes are "girly"- I always dig a woman capable enough to ride HER ride, seen plenty on FL's. "Girly" may also indicate "chicks dig it", which is ALWAYS good. ; )

The sporty gets spoil'd.
Betty (05 harley) is my sunny day ride, the low mileage alternative for shows, parades, two up ridin, and the occasional long freeway trip
Ginger ( 06 Buell) is my dirty Biatch, she goes down any road, full out, never slows down, hates staying home, mucks everything she can find and has 3 times the miles at a younger age ....
Mary Anne (03 Harley XL883R) is the lowered stocker that gets kinks out, gets flogged hard, put away wet, but stays on the pavement
Wilma (TBD {hoping for the Griffin)} Will be the dirty American SuMo/Ds that everyone warned you about. eying Highland or ATK if EBR doesnt come out with a Griffin.

Everybody needs at least one auburn rebel rousin sl*t at home ; )

I own bikes damn near all across the spectrum from ancient trikes to rigid limeys, to cafe' limeys, to dual purp, to a whole lotta XB's. It therefore stands to reason, that depending on wich bike you saw me on, you would have differing opinions about me and my bike "type" yet I'm still me. A way cool guy that everyone loves more than their mothers. The only thing that makes a bike a girls bike is...the gender of the bikes owner. And of course if it is water cooled it's a sissy girl bike but everybody knows that already. If we look back to the origin of the "Sportster" we will be reminded that the bike came before the name. Meaning it was a sport bike not a big heavy standard bike.

I knew some of us would remember the SPORTster. It's the only H-D I wouldn't light on fire or toss of a cliff, past merits don't cha know.

The only H/D that i enjoyed riding was a 1200 sportster, but it was pushing about 90 ft. lbs of rear wheel torque. Stock they are still fun though, for sure no buell though.

Dbird, that Kerker muffler looks a little weird on that Sporty. Is that exhaust system made to fit a rubber mount bike? My Vance & Hines that looks like that, mounts the muffler to the rear upper shock mount on a solid mount bike. That is a solid mount bike you're showing there, isn't it?

That is a '91 with 46K miles.
The Kerker is for a solid mount, I wanted a V&H but they quit making them. Had to clearance the mount bracket with a big old hammer so the belt wouldn't rub.

The clipons and rearsets are Crossroads, the tank is a Tiawanese generic internet model and the headlight is a Kawasaki 7 incher. Paint is Rustoleum Truck Bed Coating Spray and cost $21 with easy touch up.

Turned out to be a fun bike that can go thru the curves without dragging. Now my friend can keep up better with my XB.

Sportsters rock. XR1200X is the second best Harley ever for mine.

If I could just get one for the other but-tock as well, I'd be laughin'.
