Salt Lake County is taking applications for a Jail Nurse, not sure if more than one position is open at the moment. Starting wage is $24.01-38.30 per hour. I'll be happy to forward the e-mail to any interested. It indicates there is preference given to apps received before April 26th. PM me. | ||

I would do it but I am still on the waiting list for the RN program here  so I am still a few years out before I am a "murse" (family full of doctors and I am taking the medical plunge kinda late and aiming a bit lower because of the timing so I get teased) (Message edited by delta_one on April 17, 2010) | ||

Just putting it out there Jewels, glad you are doing well, the job market is lean right now so I am trying to help the Buell community if I can. Nursing in a jail can be good or bad. One thing to consider is there is plenty of job security as people keep on breaking the law. Dealing with the "clientele" can be a bit trying sometimes however we (the officers) watch out for our nurses here. Delta_one, I'm considering the same course, we've had several officers become nurses, at least there's no surprises that way. My wife works for the local transit company, so I'll post those listings up from time to time, they are looking for a part time temp driver right now, didn't seem worth listing. -Mike | ||

I had actually thought of working in one of our local jails but after talking with several nurses that have worked in a jail setting it seemed a bit scary. Unfortunately, one of the nurses I work with did work in a jail and she and one of the officers didn't get along so.....he didn't cover her back and she got taken down by one of the inmates. But, my dear sweet hubby said not only NO but ABSOLUTELY NO. I know there's a need but you've gotta be a special kind of person to work in that setting. Thanks for the post tho. Even tho they say there's a shortage of nurses, not too many places are hiring. The company I work for has several postings for nurses but it's a tough place to get into. (plus all the politics, aughhhh) |
